A Full Time Railroad Conductor is responsible for assembling trains, switching railroad cars and delivery of railroad cars to their destination.
This is a full-time position. The position will be based at Skowhegan ME. However, you will be asked to cover our sites in Rumford, ME and Rockland, ME. as needed. Railroad experience preferred. Willing to train the right candidate.
Day positions at Skowhegan start at 4:00 am. Evening positions start at 3pm. Shifts are up to 8 hours. Needed days are Monday - Sunday. Days of the week will be arranged after training is completed.
Day positions at Rumford start at 7am and evening positions start at 3pm. Shifts are up to 8 hours. Needed days are Monday-Sunday. Days of the week will be arranged after training is completed.
Positions in Rockland vary, generally up to a 12-hour day. Day of the week will be mid-week.
Responsibilities include.
- Ensure compliance with all train and switching orders, signals, and railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administrator (FRA)
- Review instructions from dispatchers, yardmasters, mill traffic control, and discuss with locomotive engineer and train crew.
- Inspect all equipment.
- Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
- Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and switch lists.
- Assist and instruct train crews to couple and uncouple cars, operate switches, and make minor repairs to railcars.
- Work with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of car.
- Utilize computers, mobile devices to record car movements and placements at customer locations.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safely.
- Comprehend color and/or signals and systems.

Training Requirements
Conductors will be required to attend classes in person and on-line. On the job training is required. Prior railroad certification can be used to satisfy training requirements.
All hires will be subjected to pre-employment drug screenings as well as ongoing random drug testing. Candidates will be required to pass hearing, vision and color tests.
