Position Title: Front Desk Ambassador

Reports to: Shelter Manager

Schedule: Year Round/Full-Time

Salary: $31,200-$41,600

MCPAWS is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to fill the position of Front Desk Ambassador at the shelter. This position acts at the main point of contact for all visitors, clients, customers, volunteers, and donors. Excellent customer service skills and ability are required. The work environment at MCPAWS is positive and casual, but attention to detail and professionalism is very important. Above all, we try to ensure that the positive impact that MCPAWS has on the animals and people living in our community is very clear.

Purpose of Position:

To perform all necessary work involved in the administrative portion of front desk operations. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting the Executive Director and Development Director with administrative tasks related to donors, special events, and bookkeeping. Assisting the Shelter Manager with administrative tasks related to animal intake and outcomes. Providing excellent customer service to all visitors, customers, clients, donors, and volunteers. To handle all other administrative and miscellaneous duties as needed, with a flexible and positive attitude.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. Receive and enter relevant data for donations sent online, in the mail, or in person in our donor management software program according to established protocols.

2. Generate thank you letters for each donation received, obtain necessary signatures for each letter, and ensure that letters are mailed to donors in a timely manner.

3. Answer telephone and in-person questions, responding with knowledge of adoptable animals and MCPAWS mission, policies, procedures, and programs.

4. Enter and maintain accurate data for all animal intakes and outcomes when needed.

5. Maintain and manage the “Lost and Found” log.

6. Assist Executive Director with correspondence and other administrative tasks and projects.

7. Handle all retail orders and sales transactions.

8. Greet people as they come into the shelter.

9. Work together with MCPAWS volunteers in a friendly and collaborative spirit.

10. Maintain shelter inventory.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Individual must:

1. Be able to obtain a working knowledge of MCPAWS programs, policies, and procedures and how they support the overall mission of the organization

2. Be able to deal tactfully, respectfully, compassionately, and effectively with the public.

3. Have solid computer skills, including experience with database and word processing programs.

4. Be able to multitask in a fast paced environment.

5. Be able to learn assigned tasks readily.

6. Be able to acquire a working knowledge of state, county and city laws and ordinances relating to the care, treatment and regulation of animals.

7. At times, handle and interact with dogs and cats, and acquire a working knowledge of individual animals. 8. Meet general appearance standards as defined by employee handbooks for public contact work.

Experience/Education

Have sufficient experience and education to successfully perform the duties of the Front Desk Ambassador. An Associate Degree is preferred or, alternatively, two years of experience performing administrative tasks in an office environment.

Work Environment/Conditions

Position requires a prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping if the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing statistical reports and data, using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near, far, and color vision in performing medical procedures and using the computer, and hearing is required when providing phone and counter service. The incumbent may be around animals that are agitated or injured that may attempt to bite or scratch. The need to lift and carry animals and/or records weighing in excess of 50 lbs. also is required.

Work Schedule

Work schedule will be set Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm.
