Job Description
Gallery KBNY is seeking a talented Interior Designer with a strong architectural design mindset to join our team. This role is not limited to finishes and aesthetics; we are looking for someone who understands how spaces are built, how kitchens and bathrooms function, and how design decisions impact real construction conditions.
The ideal candidate has a strong eye for design, but also understands mechanics, flow, clearances, plumbing, electrical coordination, cabinetry planning, appliance integration, and the practical needs of day-to-day living. We are looking for a designer who can balance beauty, function, feasibility, and client expectations.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of professional interior design experience, with a strong focus on architectural interiors, kitchen and bathroom planning, construction documentation, and real-world project execution.
- Strong experience in interior architectural design, especially kitchens, bathrooms, millwork, and apartment renovations.
- Ability to understand and plan functional layouts based on real-life use, flow, operation, and client needs.
- Knowledge of kitchen and bathroom mechanics, including plumbing locations, appliance requirements, fixture clearances, ventilation, electrical planning, and storage needs.
- Ability to produce and review detailed plans, elevations, renderings, finish schedules, and design documentation.
- Strong understanding of cabinetry, millwork, tile layouts, stone, lighting, fixtures, hardware, and finish selections.
- Ability to coordinate design intent with construction feasibility and jobsite conditions.
- Comfortable working with contractors, project managers, vendors, architects, and clients.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to catch conflicts before they become field issues.
- Ability to communicate design decisions clearly and professionally.
- Experience with NYC apartments, co-ops, condos, or pre-war renovations is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Chief Architect, 2020 Design, or similar programs.
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once.
- Must be willing to follow company procedures, documentation standards, and design protocols.
