Position: Web Developer
Type: Full-Time
Location: Edina
CAMP Digital is looking for an experienced Web Developer to join our rapidly growing and fast-paced digital marketing agency.
We are seeking a highly skilled, enterprise-focused Senior Web Developer. This role balances heavy technical execution with client-facing leadership, taking ownership of the performance, optimization, and scaling of a large-scale ecosystem consisting of over 300 WordPress websites.
The ideal candidate will be a WordPress and general web development expert who thrives on managing web environments at scale, resolving complex problems, and integrating third-party systems. Beyond technical mastery, this role requires exceptional communication and project management skills. You will act as a primary technical point of contact for clients, collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams, and proactively solve roadblocks to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Development & Architecture
- WordPress & Elementor Knowledge: Maintain, update, and optimize a massive portfolio of 300+ WordPress websites utilizing Elementor Pro and advanced configuration strategies.
- API Integration: Connect WordPress ecosystems with external applications, CRMs, marketing automation platforms, and third-party services via custom API integrations and webhooks.
- Database & Scale Management: Monitor, optimize, and maintain database health across our entire network, ensuring fast query times and structural stability under high traffic.
- Core Web Vitals & Page Speed: Own website performance end-to-end. Analyze and resolve speed bottlenecks to achieve top-tier Google Core Web Vitals scores across all sites.
- Technical SEO & Analytics: Implement advanced technical SEO (schema markup, crawl optimization) and deploy complex tracking infrastructures (GA4, GTM, custom data layers) without compromising site speed.
Client Collaboration & Project Management
- Client-Facing Consultations: Partner directly with clients to understand their needs, walk them through technical questions/answers, and translate complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable business insights.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate seamlessly with internal cross-functional teams (designers, marketers, and account managers) to align technical execution with overarching project goals.
- Roadblock Resolution: Proactively identify, navigate, and resolve technical or logistical bottlenecks to keep multi-site projects moving forward on schedule.
- Project Oversight & Mentorship: Act as the technical lead on portfolio-wide initiatives, establishing workflows, ensuring code quality, and mentoring junior or mid-level developers.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Communication & Leadership
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to articulately explain technical constraints, solutions, and strategies to non-technical clients and internal stakeholders alike.
- Project Management Aptitude: Proven ability to manage project timelines, prioritize competing tasks across a massive site portfolio, and maintain organization under pressure.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: Strong critical thinking skills with a track record of systematically breaking down and solving complex roadblocks.
Technical Expertise
- Enterprise-Level WordPress Experience: Proven track record of managing and scaling a large portfolio of websites (hundreds of sites) simultaneously.
- Advanced Proficiency with Elementor Pro, including dynamic content integration, loop builders, and template optimization.
- API Expertise: Deep understanding of the WordPress REST API, external REST/SOAP APIs, JSON, and authentication protocols (OAuth, JWT).
- Advanced Database Optimization: Expert knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB, including indexing, query optimization, and database cleanup at scale.
- Deep Page Speed Optimization Knowledge: Advanced caching (Redis/Memcached), asset minification, critical CSS generation, and CDN management.
- Strong proficiency in PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3/SASS, along with version control (Git).
Preferred Qualifications / Nice-to-Haves:
- Custom Development: Experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch using object-oriented PHP to reduce third-party plugin reliance.
- Previous formal experience in a Team Lead, Technical Project Manager, or Engineering Manager capacity.
