CohnReznick helps organizations optimize performance, manage risk, and maximize value through CohnReznick LLP (assurance services) and CohnReznick Advisory LLC (advisory and tax services). Together, the firm provides leaders with deep industry knowledge and relationships, solutions to address clients’ unique business goals and risks, and insight on how emerging market forces can drive opportunity. With offices nationwide, the firm serves organizations around the world as an independent member of Nexia.
We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Tax Associate to join our SALT team within our Internal Finance group.
CohnReznick is a hybrid firm and most of our professionals are located within a commutable distance to one of our offices. This position is considered hybrid which means team members are expected to be thoughtful and intentional in how they create opportunities for in-person collaboration. While the cadence of in-office presence is determined at the team level, our professionals are encouraged to be in the office/together in person on average 3 days a week.
YOUR TEAM.
The Internal Tax Compliance Senior Associate plays a key role in the preparation, review, and management of the partnership’s income tax compliance process. This includes coordinating and supporting federal, multi‑state, and local tax filings; assisting with complex partner-level allocations; and managing estimated tax calculations and budgeting requirements. The Senior Associate ensures compliance with evolving tax laws across more than 40 states and numerous local jurisdictions, while contributing to process improvements and operational efficiency within the tax function.
WHY COHNREZNICK?
At CohnReznick, we’re united by a common mission to create opportunity, value, and trust for our clients, our people, and our communities. Whether it’s working alongside your peers to solve a client challenge, or volunteering together at the local food bank, there are so many ways to find your “why” at the firm.
We believe it’s important to balance work with everyday life – and make time for enjoyment and fun. We invest in a robust Total Rewards package that includes everything from generous PTO, a flexible work environment, expanded parental leave, extensive learning & development, and even paid time off for employees to volunteer.
YOUR ROLE.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Prepare and assist in the review of the partnership’s annual federal income tax return, including all schedules, statements, and supporting documentation.
Manage preparation of state and local income tax returns across 40+ jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
Coordinate and support compliance with city, county, and other local tax obligations, including industry-specific or occupation-based filing requirements.
Assist with Schedule K‑1 preparation, review, reconciliation, and partner inquiries.
Maintain compliance calendars to track federal, state, and local filings, estimated tax due dates, and extension requirements.
Estimated Tax & Budgeting
Compute quarterly federal, state, and local estimated tax payments for the partnership and related entities.
Assist with annual tax budgeting and forecasting, including analyzing historical data, tax law changes, and expected business activity.
Prepare cash flow analyses related to estimated taxes, distributions, and other tax-sensitive transactions.
Tax Research & Technical Support
Research federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements relevant to partnership taxation and multi‑state apportionment.
Assist in interpreting the impact of new legislation and administrative guidance on the partnership and its partners.
Prepare technical memos and documentation supporting tax positions.
Process Improvement & Technology
Help identify opportunities to streamline compliance processes, enhance reporting efficiencies, and implement automation where possible.
Maintain and improve tax workpapers, templates, standardized processes, and internal controls.
Support implementation and use of tax compliance software and workflow tools.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Finance, Payroll, Legal, and other internal teams to ensure complete and accurate reporting of partnership activities.
Liaise with external tax advisors, auditors, and service providers as needed.
Respond to partner inquiries related to K‑1s, residency, apportionment, and estimated taxes.
YOUR EXPERIENCE.
The successful candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3+ years of experience in partnership tax compliance, public accounting, or corporate tax.
Strong knowledge of federal partnership taxation (Subchapter K) and multi‑state tax concepts.
Experience preparing or reviewing complex partnership returns and state composite/withholding filings.
Proficiency with tax compliance software (e.g., GoSystems, OneSource, CCH Axcess) and advanced Excel skills.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred
CPA, CPA candidate, or MST preferred.
Experience with large partnerships (100+ partners).
Familiarity with partner tax allocations, tiered structures, and partnership agreements.
Experience with local filing requirements such as city income taxes, gross receipts taxes, or occupational licenses.
