About the Company
We are a growing automation and conveyor systems integrator delivering turnkey material handling solutions for retail, e-commerce, parcel, and distribution operations. Our team designs and builds innovative conveyor and sortation systems that help customers optimize operations and scale efficiently.
We are seeking a Senior Controls, Automation & Integration Design Engineer to lead the design and execution of automation solutions for conveyor, sortation, and material handling systems.
About the Role
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the design, development, and integration of controls systems for high-speed conveyor and parcel sortation environments. You’ll own projects from concept through startup — developing PLC/HMI logic, designing electrical controls, integrating WCS/WMS systems, supporting FAT/SAT, and troubleshooting during commissioning.
This role is ideal for a senior controls engineer with experience in warehouse automation, parcel sortation, conveyor systems, or industrial automation who enjoys technical ownership and solving complex integration challenges.
What You’ll Be Doing
Controls & Automation Design
- Design and develop controls, automation, and integration solutions for conveyor and material handling systems
- Create project-specific architectures for sortation, conveyor, and warehouse automation systems
- Interpret customer specifications, layouts, and interface requirements to develop complete automation solutions
- Size motors, drives, power distribution, and control components
PLC / HMI Programming & System Integration
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and PC-based automation software
- Program and optimize logic for:
- Zone control & accumulation
- Merge, divert & routing logic
- Jam detection, fault handling & recovery
- Integrate systems with:
- Warehouse Control Systems (WCS)
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
- Third-party automation and OEM equipment
- Support integration of scanners, sensors, VFDs, encoders, servo systems, motors, safety devices, and industrial networks
Project Ownership & Technical Leadership
- Serve as the Lead Controls Engineer on engineered-to-order automation projects
- Partner cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, software, manufacturing, project management, and field teams
- Mentor junior controls engineers and support technical problem-solving
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Testing, Commissioning & Field Support
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Troubleshoot controls and integration issues during startup and commissioning
- Provide technical support for panel builds, wiring, and system validation
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or system integration within material handling, parcel, conveyor, or warehouse automation environments
- Strong experience with PLC & HMI programming
- Experience integrating systems with WCS/WMS platforms
- Knowledge of industrial networking, VFDs, motion control, servo systems, and electrical controls
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software
- Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A standards preferred
- Ability to manage multiple technical projects and solve complex automation challenges
Preferred Backgrounds
- Amazon or FedEx Experience
- Candidates with experience at companies such as Dematic, Vanderlande, Daifuku/Intelligrated, Honeywell, Fortna, Swisslog, KNAPP, MHS, FORTNA, Symbotic, Bastian Solutions, or other material handling/system integration environments are encouraged to apply.
