AI Software Development Engineer (SDE) Intern - Mandarin Speaking Required
Location: Irvine, CA
Work Type: Onsite (minimum 20 hours/week)
Role Overview
We are hiring an SDE Intern to support backend development, API design, and product-oriented system building.
This role is onsite in Irvine and works closely with engineering, product, and operations teams. The ideal candidate is technically solid, product-minded, and comfortable working across engineering, market understanding, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs
- Participate in system architecture and API interface design
- Write clear technical documentation (API specs, internal system docs)
- Conduct basic market research to support product and system decisions
- Analyze competitor products, pricing models
- Translate market insights into product and technical requirements
- Collaborate with product and operations teams across regions
- Support communication between English- and Mandarin-speaking stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Familiar with backend development and API design
- Solid software engineering fundamentals
- Comfortable writing structured technical and product documentation
- Able to read and speak Mandarin for technical and product communication
- Comfortable conducting market research and competitive analysis
- Strong understanding of U.S. product, market, or startup environment
- Product-oriented mindset, beyond pure coding tasks
- Able to work onsite in Irvine at least 20 hours per week
Nice to Have
- Experience combining technical work with market or product analysis
- Familiarity with subscription models, SaaS, or hardware-enabled services
- Experience with cloud platforms or modern backend frameworks
- Experience working in bilingual or cross-border teams
