We're looking for a Software Applications Engineer to support the development, deployment, and customization of software driving our automated test equipment (ATE) and test/automation systems for semiconductor customers. In this role, you'll work closely with customers and internal engineering teams to configure test programs, troubleshoot software-hardware integration issues, and develop tools that streamline test execution and data analysis. The ideal candidate combines strong programming skills (Python, C#, LabVIEW, or similar) with a working knowledge of semiconductor test methodologies, instrumentation control, and automated handler/prober integration. This is a customer-facing technical role, requiring the ability to translate application requirements into robust software solutions while providing hands-on support during system bring-up, qualification, and field deployment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Test and optimize automated equipment in field of semiconductor.
- Develop and Support Automated Test Software for use by Engineering, Production, and Support
- Develop and Support Software to Control Chroma’s Thermal, Mechanical, and Automation Products
- Communicate and discuss with customer with testing application upon automated equipment.
- Utilize AI Tools such as Claude or Codex to develop Python, C++, C#, HTML Code
- Conduct and Participate in Design Reviews
- Log issues to Jira, and work in a team environment to knock down issues in a timely manner to support product release schedules
- Determine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiency.
- Determine diagram layouts, orientation, locations, facility requirements, and building features for equipment installation.
- Activate equipment and verify system functionality to conform to performance expectations.
- Perform calibration, installation, configuration, and recipe tuning of automated equipment.
- Compose application SW, editing scripts to support customer needs on testing.
- Debugging of Systems and Software
- Identify equipment design/assembly issues and feedback to technical or production teams.
- Provide education training of system operation, maintenance, and calibration.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedule and keep service records.
- Provide operator training for daily operation and preventive maintenance.
- Provide technical support to sales including system demonstration, specifications, and limitations.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze business requirements, translating them into robust system designs and technical specifications.
- Travel up to 20%
Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills
Required
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering or computer science
- Python, C++, C# Experience
- Experience building SW Code using ai tools such as Claude or Codex
- Computer peripheral knowledge
- Ability to perform certain work with hand tools
Preferred
- Bilingual - English/Mandarin
- Organized and detail oriented
- Equipment installation/service/maintenance experience
- Thermal equipment control and knowledge
- Working experience or knowledge of semiconductor or optic industry
- 1+ years on relative job function and experience on fields of service or application
