Eco-Energy Natural Gas, LLC is seeking an experienced Site Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of an underground natural gas storage facility in Southern Indiana. The facility includes underground natural gas storage wells connected to a sandstone reservoir, gas gathering infrastructure, compression equipment, gas treating systems, metering, and interconnect facilities with an interstate pipeline.
This position serves as the senior onsite leader responsible for all facility operations, personnel, safety, maintenance, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include supervision of onsite personnel, coordination of maintenance activities, operational planning, contractor oversight, and communication with company leadership. The role requires strong leadership, operational discipline, and hands-on experience in natural gas operations, compression, pipeline, and storage-related facilities.
The successful candidate will also play a key role in helping develop operational procedures, SOPs, safety programs, and facility protocols as the operation is established and brought online. This is a critical leadership role within a growing energy infrastructure company.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Facility Management
- Direct daily operations of the underground natural gas storage facility, including wells, gathering systems, compression equipment, gas treating systems, metering equipment, and associated pipeline infrastructure.
- Ensure safe/reliable injection & withdrawal in coordination with commercial and operational requirements.
- Monitor facility performance, pressures, flow rates, gas quality, and operational integrity.
- Coordinate startup, shutdown, seasonal operations, and emergency response activities.
- Maintain operational readiness during peak winter withdrawal periods.
Personnel Leadership
- Supervise and lead onsite operations personnel and contractors.
- Establish and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the facility.
- Conduct employee training, safety meetings, and operational briefings.
- Manage work scheduling, task assignments, contractor coordination, and employee performance.
Regulatory, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including underground natural gas storage and pipeline safety requirements.
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of integrity management, operations & maintenance, and regulatory compliance programs.
- Help develop, implement, and maintain SOPs, operating procedures, lockout/tagout procedures, emergency response plans, and facility safety protocols.
- Maintain operational records, inspection logs, maintenance documentation, and regulatory reporting.
- Coordinate inspections and communications with regulatory agencies and third-party inspectors.
Maintenance & Reliability
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repair activities for all facility equipment.
- Assist with troubleshooting operational and mechanical issues.
- Manage vendors and contractors performing maintenance, construction, or repair work.
Communication & Reporting
- Serve as the primary onsite point of contact for corporate management.
- Provide regular operational updates, maintenance reports, and incident notifications.
- Coordinate with engineering, commercial, compliance, and executive teams.
- Participate in operational planning and budgeting activities.
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of experience in natural gas operations (compression, pipeline, storage, production, or midstream).
- Prior supervisory or management experience in an industrial or energy-related environment.
- Working knowledge of compressors, pipelines, gas measurement, valves, pressure systems, etc.
- Understanding of safety and regulatory requirements applicable to natural gas facilities.
- Experience developing or implementing operating procedures and safety programs.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to respond to operational issues and emergencies outside normal working hours when required.
Preferred
- Experience with underground natural gas storage operations.
- Experience with interstate or intrastate pipeline interconnects.
- Knowledge of PHMSA, FERC, DOT, and state utility or pipeline safety regulations.
- Mechanical, technical, or engineering background. Experience managing contractors and construction.
Work Environment
- Combination of office and field environment. Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to industrial equipment, compressors, pipelines, and well operations.
- Position will require regular after-hours availability and response to operational issues, alarms, maintenance activities, and emergency events, particularly during peak operating periods.
