Job description: Shift Supervisor

About Us:
The Concord Market on Campus at MIT is seeking a Shift Supervisor! This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-volume, seasonal environment. You’ll supervise a team of cashiers/stockers, oversee retail product presentation, assist with training, and ensure that our grocery, grab-and-go, café, and prepared food areas run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include assisting with checkout, restocking, maintaining cleanliness, supporting catering logistics, and delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support all front-of-house staff including cashiers and café attendants.
• Work closely with Assistant Manager and Store Manager to coordinate daily operations, execute projects, and ensure quality control across all departments.
• Deliver outstanding customer service by modeling professionalism, product knowledge, and a welcoming attitude.
• Oversee daily shift operations, including opening/closing procedures, cash handling procedures, system maintenance, and store cleanliness.
• Monitor product displays, restocking, and merchandising standards throughout the market.
• Assist with onboarding and ongoing training of FOH team members.
• Communicate daily updates, goals, and customer feedback to management.
• Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are upheld across all retail and prepared foods areas including time and temperature control, product rotation, and expiration date adherance.
• Help manage shift flow and customer service during peak hours.
• Respond to customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and escalate issues as needed.

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience in food retail, grocery, or café environments (supervisory experience preferred).
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure in a high-volume setting.
• Familiarity with food safety and sanitation best practices (ServSafe a plus).
• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
• Available for early mornings and evenings. Weekend availability a must.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, clear communication in English a must.
• Self-starter who takes initiative and enjoys problem-solving.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

• Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
• In an 8-hour work day: standing/walking 6–8 hours.
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
• Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
• Exposure to temperatures: <32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32–40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), >90 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Ability to work in a wet and cold environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters and other machinery.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
