We are a diverse group of people from all backgrounds who work hard and enjoy working together. Selected candidate(s) will receive training and supervision tailored to their specific role as a fire protection system engineer.
Responsibilities
Work with fire sprinkler contractors, engineers, architects, and building code officials to design fire sprinkler, standpipe, fire pump, water tanks, and special hazard suppression and extinguishing systems for new buildings of every variety. Provide NFPA 13D, 13R, and 13 fire sprinkler system design, NFPA 14 standpipe design, and NFPA 20 fire pump system design. Prepare drawings for AHJ submittal and prepare field installation mapping. Perform hydraulic calculations and prepare calculations for printed review by others. Provide seismic calculations including calculating zone of influence in accordance with NFPA 13. Prepare hlf listing files for complete system fabrication, including loose items listing. Be familiar with FM design standards. Perform fire-flow testing. This position requires daily technical writing in various forms.
Willingness and desire to be a part of a team. Work under the supervision of fire protection engineers and designers, preparing plans and files for their review. Understanding of the need for work to be completed on time and under budget. Ability to develop clear and concise written documentation. Willingness to be at work on-time and occasionally during paid overtime hours. Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
A degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited university is required, and it is preferred that the applicant should has an interest in the construction and building industry, with knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems and a major emphasis on Fire Protection. Applicant must have excellent communication skills and be capable of working with building owners and architects, and coordinating with other consulting engineering disciplines such as the electrical, structural & civil engineers. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
