The PLC Programmer supports industrial automation projects across manufacturing, food processing, utilities, and custom engineering environments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands‑on technical work, enjoys solving complex control problems, and can work independently in the field as well as collaboratively with engineers and clients. The role is responsible for designing, programing, testing, and troubleshooting PLC‑based control systems, HMIs, and automation equipment from concept through commissioning.
Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
PLC & Controls Programming
· Develop, modify, and optimize PLC programs (Allen‑Bradley, Studio 5000, Siemens, etc.)
· Design and configure HMI/SCADA interfaces (FactoryTalk, Ignition, Wonderware, etc.)
· Create and maintain I/O lists, control narratives, and functional specifications
· Implement PID loops, motion control, safety logic, and communication protocols
System Integration & Commissioning
· Install, test, and commission control systems at client sites
· Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software issues during startup
· Validate system performance and ensure compliance with project requirements
· Provide on‑site and remote support for system upgrades and maintenance
Project Engineering Support
· Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers on system design
· Interpret and update electrical schematics, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams
· Assist with panel design, hardware selection, and bill of materials
· Document changes, revisions, and project deliverables with accuracy
Client Interaction & Technical Support
· Communicate clearly with clients, operators, and maintenance teams
· Provide training on new systems and equipment
· Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Skills:
· 3+ years of experience in PLC programming and industrial automation
· Proficiency with at least one major PLC platform (Allen‑Bradley preferred)
· Experience with HMI/SCADA development
· Strong understanding of industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus)
· Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
· Willingness to travel to client sites for installation and commissioning
· Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently
· Comfortable in fast‑paced environments with shifting priorities
· Professional communication and client‑facing confidence
· Commitment to accuracy, safety, and high‑quality engineering standards
Preferred:
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
· Experience in manufacturing, food processing, or industrial facilities
· Knowledge of NFPA 70E, industrial safety systems, and lockout/tagout
· Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
Additional Information:
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
