This position is with Big Island Abalone, an abalone aquafarm on the Kona Coast of Hawaiʻi Island, operated by Kona Aquaculture Inc. Recognized as the largest abalone aquafarm in the United States, Big Island Abalone raises premium live abalone in a unique natural environment, using cold, nutrient-rich deep sea water and sustainable aquaculture practices. The Abalone Division Manager shall have overall responsibility for the integrated supervision and strategic management of the Abalone Production Division and Abalone Marketing and Sales Division.
The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervising and overseeing both the Abalone Production Division and the Abalone Marketing and Sales Division in an integrated manner
- Promoting effective coordination between production capacity and market demand
- Establishing mid- to long-term business strategies and policies for the overall abalone business
- Managing overall business planning, budgeting, and divisional performance
- Making key managerial decisions regarding the abalone business and reporting significant matters to senior management
- Identifying business risks and opportunities and ensuring sustainable growth and profitability of the abalone business
· Managing and supervising all production-related operations of abalone products, including:
- Planning, organizing, and implementing abalone production schedules and operational plans
- Managing cultivation, growth, harvesting, and related production processes
- Overseeing quality control standards and implementing measures to improve product quality
- Monitoring and improving production efficiency, yield, and cost performance
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal standards related to production, safety, and environmental management
- Supervising, training, evaluating, and managing staff within the production division
- Identifying operational issues, risks, and improvement opportunities, and implementing corrective actions
- Leading the marketing and sales activities of abalone products and for enhancing revenue growth and market competitiveness, including:
- Developing and executing marketing and sales strategies for abalone products
- Establishing and managing sales plans in domestic and/or international markets
- Planning and implementing pricing strategies, promotional initiatives, and brand development activities
- Building and maintaining relationships with customers, business partners, and distribution channels
- Analyzing market trends, customer needs, and competitive conditions
- Managing sales performance, revenue targets, and profitability
- Supervising, training, evaluating, and managing staff within the marketing and sales division
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a combination of operational, managerial, and customer-facing experience relevant to aquaculture, seafood, food production, sales, or a related business. Preferred qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Educational background in aquaculture, marine science, business administration, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience in aquaculture, seafood, agriculture, food production, or other production-based operations
- Experience managing or supervising teams, including training, evaluation, scheduling, and performance management
- Experience in sales, marketing, customer relations, hospitality, or business development
- Ability to coordinate production planning with market demand, sales targets, and customer needs
- Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a hands-on operational environment and collaborate with both production and sales teams
- Familiarity with quality control, safety standards, regulatory compliance, or environmental management is preferred
