Position Summary:

The Sales Engineer is a company representative who engages in client communications to effectively summarize project requirements. These requirements are then expressed in accurate engineering formats, with supporting documentation and cost estimations to management and the client. The Sales Engineer provides construction drawings, performs timely purchase ordering, and is responsible for inventory accountability for assigned projects. The Sales Engineer is a liaison between operations scheduling and field construction crews, and is responsible for effective field operations, project quality control, and overseeing the daily work order/time sheet reporting process

Position Responsibilities:

Customer Relations/Sales:

• The Sales Engineer is responsible for achieving the annual sales goals, for discovering our client’s needs & preferences, for providing engineered solutions and obtaining targeted sales growth.
• In a timely fashion, meet with client and interview projects as required to determine scope of work, ranch or location, objective, required timeline, responsible financial individual or organization.
• Conduct on-going sales calls to both existing customers and new prospective customers as assigned.
• Sales/Service calls to customers supporting operations and trouble shooting.
• Company Representative at various community events throughout annual calendar
• Convey to the general manager, in a timely manner, any problem that may jeopardize the company/client relationship.

Project Engineering:

• Identification of surveying needs per project, and coordination with local surveying company to accomplish task at hand, within allotted time period. Weekly update and review of “Muller Project Engineering spread sheet”.
• Surface, Sub-surface drainage projects, designed using correct engineering practices, and through the local knowledge of soil types, slopes, gravel envelope, and materials of construction.
• Pumping plant high- and low-pressure pump configurations designed using correct engineering practices for all components, including, but not limited to, well pump, booster pump, discharge, filtration, monitoring devices, and electrical components.
• Pipeline distribution systems, including looped and non-looped systems, designed using correct engineering practices considering pressure requirements, vacuum break and air release, economic pipeline sizing, pipeline materials of construction, etc.
• Above Ground aluminum sprinkler pipe systems, designed using correct engineering practices and maintaining distribution uniformity and application rates as specified through client input.
• Above ground and buried header drip irrigation systems, designed using correct engineering practices and maintaining distribution uniformity and application rates as specified through client input.
• Responsible for working knowledge of products, services, vendors being used.
• Responsible for on-going education of new products and services as they become available in the industry.
• Responsible for the Engineering Work Station, that produces accurate and visibly appealing sales/engineering presentations, which includes: engineering notes assembled in a reviewable fashion, material specification sheets, material take-off sheets, project cost accounting sheets, client bid sheets, line drawings, pipeline details, standards of construction details, computer generated designs or maps, project location maps, etc. as necessary.

Management:

• Responsible for the daily review of work order time sheets for accuracy of personnel, equipment & materials used on the job.
• Maintain and update the Weekly Crew Construction Schedule for the current and next week’s schedule, and the update the future Projects List Monthly Calendar.
• Responsible for reporting to General Manager any witnessed accident, theft, misconduct, and employee injury (no matter how slight).
• Responsible for the continuing execution of safety policies and practices.
• Responsible for assisting to maintain a positive work environment, free from discrimination, with the overall objective to build moral and a winning team of employees.
• Responsible for assisting in maintaining a drug and alcohol free work place.
• Responsible for the timely execution of equipment maintenance and upkeep.
• With the General Manager and Equipment Manager, coordinate annual equipment rehabilitation process.

Field/Crew Operations:

• Responsible for timely pre-job site visits to ensure readiness by client, ground conditions, access, etc.
• Responsible for correct parts and/or equipment inventory management prior to construction scheduling event.
• Responsible for daily crew start up and/or shut down procedures to ensure maximization of crew effectiveness.
• Responsible for project quality control and accurateness of project “as-built” drawings.
• Responsible for field safety operations, including, but not limited to, trench configurations and depths to abide by OSHA standards with crew safety being the highest priority on the job site.
• Responsible for coordination of subcontractors, USA call-before-you-dig inspections, county, city, and utility inspections, etc. as necessary.

Other Duties:

• Maintain good working relationships with customers, receivers, employees, peers and supervisors including problem solving.
• At all times communicate a professional and courteous manner that supports Muller’s Standards and goals.
• Provide service to any customer when the need arises, or when an assigned Account Manager is unavailable.
• Other duties as assigned.

Desirable Skills and Requirements:

• Hands on work experience in vegetable crop produce industry (ABSOLUTE REQUIERMENT)
• Working knowledge of computers and software which would render an engineer effective at accomplishing assigned tasks, including but not limited to word processing systems, spreadsheet processing systems, Windows operating system, Computer aided drafting & processing systems.
• Telephone, computer keyboard, photocopy machine, fax and other office equipment.
• GPS and laser surveying techniques and related equipment.
• Working knowledge of the tools and equipment required for construction crews to readily accomplish their tasks.
• This position requires the individual to interact, work with and develop alliances and relationships with other key members of the organization.
• Above average organizational skills are required and pertain to, but are not limited to computer files, office workspace, office file space, job dockets, etc.

Education:

• College Education, diploma completed in an engineering or related curriculum, or equivalent experience required to fulfill the “Skills and Requirements” as outlined in this job description.
• On-going education and/or training as appropriate.
• Professional societies as appropriate.

Requirements:

• Majority of the time may be spent in-field on uneven, muddy, cloddy, sloped or unstable soil. This activity may include walking, kneeling, turning, reaching, climbing and other physical activities related to the assessment of a clients’ project and gathering field data.
• Ability to lift 80 pounds without undue physical exertion.
• Ability to communicate verbally and comprehend verbal instructions.
• Requires acceptable sight and hearing to perform all job duties.
• Ability to carry out defined procedures and duties with specific instructions
• Ability to learn new duties with minimal repetition.
• Ability to handle and coordinate multiple tasks at once with minimum distraction.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion
• Driver License and clean driving record

Time Commitment:

• This is an exempt position which is not defined by exact daily start and stop time, or by a maximum weekly or monthly time commitment, but is defined as one which requires a substantially above average work ethic, and a commitment to excellence.
• The position includes paid vacation time as per The Employee Handbook, computed using the base salary.
• The position includes six paid holidays (Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day).
