ROLE DESCRIPTION
As a Technical Architect within BR+’s Architecture Department, you will work under the direction and supervision of the Architectural Department Head.
You are a high-level specialist responsible for ensuring that complex architectural designs are translated into fully buildable, compliant, coordinated, and technically robust construction solutions. Positioned between conceptual design and detailed construction delivery, you are essential to the practical realization of the firm’s most complex projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership & Quality Control
Detailed Production: Lead and ensure the production of detailed technical drawings, specifications, and comprehensive construction information.
Complex Problem Solving: Resolve highly complex junctions, interfaces, and material transitions to ensure design integrity.
Technical Direction: Provide technical direction to address complex design challenges and oversee the integration of concepts into construction documentation.
Standardization & Coordination: Lead technical coordination workshops to ensure design meets structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialized interdisciplinary requirements.
Building Regulations & Compliance
Expert Analysis: Interpret and apply building codes (IBC, PRBC), fire regulations, accessibility standards (ADA), and sustainable design requirements.
Compliance Oversight: Review and coordinate with consultants across all disciplines to ensure total compliance with legal and safety standards.
Site Assessments: Lead site assessments and research project conditions, design parameters, and relevant constraints.
Construction Stage Support & PM
Perform construction observation to ensure construction execution aligns with design intent and quality standards.
Technical Administration: Manage the response to RFIs and review shop drawings and submittals for accuracy and compliance.
Project Performance: Ensure projects are delivered profitably and within established scope, schedule, quality, and budget parameters.
Mentorship & Firm Strategy
Proposal Support: Provide expert technical narratives, construction strategies, and scope definitions for RFP responses and formal proposals.
Assist the Architecture Department Head in defining technical scopes of work and resource requirements for new project proposals.
Mentorship: Mentor junior architects, designers, and technical staff, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
Strategic Alignment: Actively advance BR+’s mission, vision, and strategic goals while upholding the firm's core values.
General Support: Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the Architecture Department and the firm’s overall objectives.
Experience:
5+ years of architectural experience with a focus on technical leadership and construction documentation.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (NAAB accredited).
Current architectural licensure is required.
Must be an Active member of the Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico.
Active NCARB Certificate is preferred.
Industry Knowledge: Deep technical mastering of building materials, construction systems, and sustainable/tropical design principles.
Technical Skills
Technical Mastery: Advanced expertise in Construction Methods, building materials, and complex construction systems and innovation.
Software Mastery: Expert proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is required.
Advanced experience with digital collaboration platforms such as Bluebeam and Teams.
Architectural Vision: Strategic thinking and the ability to translate project needs into technically sound design criteria, accurate cost estimates and technical specifications.
Soft Skills
Bilingual Proficiency: Full professional proficiency in English and Spanish (verbal and written) is mandatory.
Influential Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across the firm and with external partners.
Execution Discipline: A proactive, self-motivated approach focused on delivery excellence and high-quality outcomes.
Critical Thinking: A creative and analytical approach to identifying and resolving technical issues before they impact the project.
