Job Summary
The Manager, Telemetry is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and clinical performance of the Telemetry department to ensure safe, accurate, and continuous cardiac monitoring of patients. This role provides leadership in staff supervision, workflow coordination, quality improvement, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. The Manager ensures proper utilization of telemetry monitoring systems, fosters collaboration between nursing units and support departments, and maintains high standards of patient care and safety.
Leadership & Essential Functions
Clinical Operations & Departmental Oversight
- Daily Operations: Oversees daily operations of the Telemetry department, ensuring continuous monitoring and accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms for all assigned patients.
- Patient Coordination: Coordinates with nursing leaders and clinical teams to ensure appropriate patient placement, telemetry monitoring assignments, and timely communication of rhythm changes or abnormalities.
- Clinical Resource: Serves as a clinical resource for nursing and ancillary staff regarding cardiac monitoring interpretation and workflow optimization.
- Core Accountability: Maintains regular and reliable attendance and complies with all policies and standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision & Staff Management
- Team Leadership: Provides leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for departmental staff.
- Staffing & Scheduling: Schedules employees to ensure effective use of resources. Consults with the Director on staffing issues.
- Performance Evaluations: Conducts performance evaluations, sets goals, and provides continuous feedback to staff on their performance and development.
- Clinical Staff Support: May work in a staff nurse role when required, ensuring that duties and responsibilities are fulfilled while meeting all established competencies for that job.
Strategic Planning & Financial Oversight
- Budget Management: Develops and manages the departmental budget, monitoring expenditures to ensure cost-effective operations while maintaining high-quality service delivery.
- Operational Efficiency: Evaluates and implements new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
- Policy Development: Develops and implements departmental policies, procedures, and protocols to optimize quality and overall efficiencies.
Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
- Equipment Integrity: Ensures telemetry equipment, monitors, and central stations are functioning properly and maintained in compliance with hospital and manufacturer standards.
- Technical Collaboration: Collaborates with Biomedical Engineering and IT departments to resolve technical issues, schedule preventive maintenance, and support system upgrades or integrations.
- Metrics & Analysis: Analyzes departmental metrics such as response times, alarm fatigue, accuracy, and documentation compliance to identify opportunities for performance improvement.
- Audits & Accreditation: Supports quality and safety initiatives related to cardiac monitoring. Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies, participates in audits/inspections, and may oversee the accreditation process with relevant agencies to meet or exceed industry standards.
- Industry Trends: Stays up-to-date with industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes while working closely with leadership teams to coordinate and improve service delivery.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Degree Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field OR Four (4) plus years of direct experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree required.
- Advanced Degree: Master's Degree preferred.
- Clinical Experience: 2-4 years of experience in a closely related field with a Bachelor's degree required.
- Leadership Experience: 2-4 years of previous leadership experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- RN: Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required.
- BCLS: Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) required.
- ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) required.
