The Steward School seeks an enthusiastic and committed Lower School Math and General Support Tutor. This is a part-time, non-benefited position reporting to the Director of The Center for the Advancement of Learning.

General Description

The Center for the Advancement of Learning maintains a team of dedicated and knowledgeable tutors who empower and support Steward School students. Tutors provide academic support in core academic classes and developmental support for foundational skills in literacy and mathematics. Tutors also teach strategies for personal organization, time management, test-taking, and study skills to improve self-advocacy skills and eventually achieve greater personal accomplishments.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess:

• Bachelor's degree in education.
• Experience in math instruction, preferably with Envisions curriculum.
• Classroom experience with grades 3-5, a plus.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Thoughtful and evaluative writing skills.
• Approachable personality and ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Strong skills in operating personal computers and related software (MS Office, Outlook, Google Suite, and Blackbaud).
• Adaptable to changing priorities, ability to work independently and/or with minimum supervision, and the ability to effectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Ability to work in a cooperative manner with students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators.
• Flexible and organized enough to manage an 8-day rotating school schedule.
• Willingness to commit to the success of each student and his/her personal growth.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with teachers and parents to provide developmentally appropriate instructional activities to advance each student’s understanding of the subject fundamentals.
• Stimulate learning and meet the needs of students through a variety of instructional approaches.
• Participate in conferences and team meetings with teachers, administration, and families concerning academic progress for students on the tutoring caseload, on an as-needed basis.
• Continually assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet student needs.
• Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning as needed.
• Maintain a professional manner when interacting with students, teachers, parents, and colleagues.
• Maintain records of student performance and attendance; communicate this effectively with students, classroom teachers, and parents.
• Submit on-time billing spreadsheets each month .

Work Hours and Time Commitment:

All duties are performed on campus in the Lower School tutoring rooms during the school year. Summer tutoring is optional.

• Schedule 30 to 60-minute individual tutoring sessions during the school day, 8:00 AM - 3:20 PM.
• Effectively manage 7-10 students weekly.
• Must be available to tutor students for the duration of the school year.
• Maintain a flexible and variable schedule to accommodate the 8-day rotation.
• After-school tutoring sessions are optional, depending on the tutor's preferences and the student’s schedule..
• Weekly tutoring room reservations are made via Outlook.
  

Compensation is $63/hr for tutoring. School supplies, textbooks, online access, a laptop, and on-site printing capabilities are provided. Parent and division meetings are compensated at $30/hour.
