ABOUT LASARRUS

LASARRUS Clinic and Research Center is a Baltimore-based medical device and clinical research company developing WearME, a wearable respiratory monitoring platform for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Our work is supported by NIH funding and collaborations with clinical and academic partners.

POSITION SUMMARY

LASARRUS is seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to support NIH-funded WearME clinical studies and help establish an outpatient respiratory clinic workflow focused initially on pulmonary function testing, COPD patient support, documentation, and clinical operations.

This begins as a 90-day independent-contractor pilot at approximately 30 hours per week. Work is primarily onsite Monday through Thursday at our Baltimore clinic, with limited remote documentation or coordination when mutually scheduled. Successful completion of the pilot may lead to part-time or full-time W-2 employment based on performance, funding, study volume, and clinic progress. Conversion is not guaranteed.

The right candidate is clinically strong, dependable, highly organized, comfortable in a small-team environment, and able to turn priorities into accurate, visible work products without continuous direction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

WearME Clinical Research

- Support NIH-funded WearME study activities in accordance with approved protocols, SOPs, IRB requirements, GCP, HIPAA, and assigned study responsibilities.

- Conduct or assist with participant visits that may include spirometry, six-minute walk testing, mobility assessments, questionnaires, and application of WearME and reference devices.

- Apply and operate study and respiratory equipment according to training, manufacturer instructions, and study procedures.

- Monitor participants for safety concerns, adverse events, and protocol issues, and escalate concerns promptly.

- Complete accurate source documentation, REDCap entries, visit logs, device logs, calibration records, and data-quality checks.

- Coordinate clearly with investigators, research staff, engineers, and clinical collaborators.

RT Clinic Operations

- Help implement safe and repeatable outpatient spirometry and pulmonary function testing workflows.

- Support COPD patient education, respiratory self-management, smoking-cessation resources, and related services within professional scope and approved protocols.

- Draft and maintain practical SOPs, checklists, intake tools, EHR templates, and clinical documentation workflows.

- Support patient scheduling, visit preparation, follow-up documentation, and communication with the clinical team.

- Help evaluate and improve clinic workflows using documented outcomes and operational observations.

- Support pulmonary rehabilitation planning and readiness only. Medicare pulmonary rehabilitation services will not begin until LASARRUS has established the required medical-director, supervision, compliance, and billing structure.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Active Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner license in good standing.

- Active Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care.

- Current BLS certification before performing patient-facing work.

- At least two years of respiratory therapy experience involving COPD, pulmonary, or outpatient respiratory patients.

- Direct hands-on experience performing spirometry or pulmonary function testing.

- Strong clinical documentation, organization, and attention to detail.

- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and an EHR or clinical documentation system.

- Ability to work primarily onsite in Baltimore Monday through Thursday and provide dependable coverage for mutually scheduled patient and study activities.

- Ability to communicate scheduling conflicts or operational concerns promptly and directly to the designated LASARRUS supervisor.

- Ability to follow clinical and research protocols while independently completing assigned deliverables in a small-team environment.

- Professional communication skills and comfort working with older adults and people with chronic respiratory disease.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Pulmonary rehabilitation, six-minute walk testing, COPD education, smoking-cessation, or outpatient pulmonary clinic experience.

- Clinical research experience involving GCP, IRB protocols, informed consent, REDCap, source documentation, data quality, or medical-device studies.

- ACLS certification.

- Experience helping build or improve a small clinic, research site, or startup workflow.

- Experience with Epic, Cerner, CharmHealth, Tebra, Practice EHR, or a comparable EHR.

SCHEDULE AND CONTRACT TERMS

- Initial term: 90-day independent-contractor pilot.

- Expected workload: approximately 30 hours per week.

- Primary onsite coverage: Monday through Thursday in Baltimore.

- Limited remote documentation or coordination may be mutually scheduled when it does not interfere with patient, clinic, or study responsibilities.

- Compensation: $40-$50 per hour, based on credentials and directly relevant experience.

- Continuation or W-2 conversion will be considered after the pilot based on performance, reliability, funding, study needs, and clinic progress.

- Finalists must complete Maryland license and NBRC credential verification, a background check, and professional reference checks before an offer is finalized.
