Software Engineer – C#/.NET 10, Windows Applications

Rational Enterprise is hiring a Software Engineer to join the engineering team behind Rational Governance (RG), our enterprise information governance platform. RG helps organizations understand and manage unstructured data in place and in real-time — powering legal holds, preservations, retention policies, and broader risk and cost reduction across enterprise data. This role is ideal for a developer with strong C#/.NET experience who enjoys building robust, performant Windows desktop applications.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and maintain Windows services and background processes using C# and .NET 10
• Build and enhance components that discover, scan, and extract unstructured data across distributed enterprise environments
• Develop features supporting legal holds, preservation workflows, and data retention policy enforcement
• Collaborate with product and QA to deliver new features and resolve defects
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to align on requirements and timelines

What we're looking for

• Strong professional experience with C# and the .NET framework (.NET 10 or recent .NET Core/.NET 5+ versions)
• Experience building Windows Services or other long-running background/system-level applications
• Familiarity with file system APIs, network protocols, or remote data access (e.g., SMB, WMI, REST/SOAP APIs) a plus
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design and multi-threaded/asynchronous programming
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, especially with distributed or unattended processes
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with a distributed team

Nice to have

• Experience in legal tech, information governance, compliance, or data management software
• Familiarity with enterprise data scanning, classification, or policy-driven automation systems
• Experience with Active Directory, Exchange, or cloud storage integrations (e.g., SharePoint, OneDrive, M365)
