Federal Foam Technologies, an industry leader in custom fabrication of flexible cellular and plastic materials, is currently looking for a Engineering Supervisor in Northwood, IA. This role directly supervises, plans and participates in the activities performed by the Engineering group at the Northwood facility. Coordinates, directs and participates in the engineering processes required to ensure a prompt and effective new part introduction within the Northwood facility which includes new production timelines and all related elements. Ensures that the transition to production readiness for new and existing parts upon receipt of a purchase order from customer is done in a timely manner. Drives improvements to existing production methods, manufacturing processes, and tooling to reduce scrap, enhance overall part quality, increase throughput, and provide cost reductions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Aids in the creation, documentation, and enforcement of policies and procedures relating to the operations of the Northwood facility, especially those relating to the Engineering group.
- Analyzes blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to determine feasibility of product proposals.
- Discusses with Engineering group part design and tooling specifications to ensure efficient production methods.
- Reviews and verifies project documents for completeness, format and compliance with contract requirements.
- Oversees and participates in the preparation of new part production and process documentation, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the documentation prior to the release into production.
- Discusses with management, Engineering group and other departments regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Discusses with Engineering group and other departments to establish performance criteria and specifications for manufacturing and testing.
- Conducts, directs and oversees the observation and analysis of personnel and processes/systems developed to establish time and production standards, capabilities and documentation necessary for implementation into manufacturing.
- Directs and participates in the review of selected production job orders for verification of performance to estimated standards and aids in the implementation of improvements.
- Oversees, directs, and coordinates the manufacture of samples, prototype parts, new parts and existing parts.
- Oversees the design, development, and implementation of tooling and equipment manufactured in-house.
- Participates in the selection, specification and implementation of new manufacturing equipment.
- Works with supplier representatives regarding specifications, costs, quality standards and similar issues relating to tooling and equipment.
- Analyzes data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Evaluates new equipment and processes on an ongoing basis to stay abreast of new technologies.
- Develops, evaluates, improves and supports manufacturing methods and processes.
- Develops models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility and recommends implementation of improved procedures.
- Directs, coordinates and participates in meetings with management, Engineering group and other groups to document project tasks and timelines.
- Evaluates processes and procedures to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Oversees, directs and coordinates the 5S Program at the Northwood facility and continuous improvement activities.
- Oversees, directs and coordinates all activities of the Engineering group.
- Works with production, Quality Assurance, others in the Engineering group, and other groups to resolve issues with planned production processes.
- Provides technical information and training concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations to other groups.
- Directly supervises the Engineering group at the Northwood facility. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in engineering from a four-year College or University and a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be familiar with the structure of methods of manufacture (BOM’s and routings).
- Must have good working knowledge of computers and experience with MS Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), ERP software, Creo, AutoCAD and/or similar CAD design software packages.
- Working knowledge of and experience with foam fabrication and thermoforming equipment and processes is preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
