JOB TITLE: Fiber Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
Golden State Net is seeking a highly motivated fiber engineer to help build a robust fiber network from the ground up. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fiber design, as well as Fiber Management Systems (FMS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). We are looking for someone who can bring innovative ideas for creating processes and driving complex solutions to resolution. This role will work alongside the Fiber Engineering manager and Operations team to support Fiber Engineering tasks and responsibilities. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: N/A
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Develop splice plans to initiate splicing orders and maximize the efficiency of the network
● Produce fiber network schematics to be implemented in the field for installs, routing, and fiber span designs
● Assist in capacity planning as it relates to fiber availability
● Receive and audit FMS/GIS data for completeness and accuracy
● Ingest and export various map files and data points related to FMS/GIS databases, including external systems such as 811
● Perform data analysis to maintain, organize and QC network elements in fiber inventory systems (FMS/GIS) to ensure the database is current with field and customer data
● Review sales engineering designs to determine fiber routing for new orders
● Interface with and implement projects across multiple regions and stakeholders
● Assist with managing project trackers, related to various build partners and project timelines
● Support project related meetings with customers, stakeholders and build partners
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS:
● Knowledge of fiber optic construction and install techniques
● Ability to read and interpret maps, as-builts and field notes in various formats such as .pdf, .shp, .kmz, etc.
● Demonstrated knowledge of fiber database management and network planning
● Experience in Google and Microsoft office products
● Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
● Proven effective organizational skills with high attention to detail
● Proficient verbal and written communication skills
● Passion for problem solving, particularly related to fiber design complexities
● Prefers team collaboration and dynamic working environments
● Located in California a plus
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
● Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent relevant work experience
● GIS discipline, including a minimum of 2+ years' experience working in Esri / ArcGIS Pro / MapInfo, with a preference in utility space
● 2+ years' experience in fiber design and outside plant engineering
● 2+ years' experience working in FMS/GIS systems, Vetro and/or IQGeo experience a plus
● 1+ years' experience in project or program management
WORK HOURS:
● Regular work week is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., PST. Evening and weekend work may be required based on GSN’s business demands
● If working in a time zone outside of PST, expectations are to align work hours with PST schedules
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $84,000.00 - $95,500.00 per year
