POSITION SUMMARY
Our Corporation is seeking a seasoned Maintenance Electrician to join our East Haven production facility. This is a hands-on role designed for a journeyman- or master-level commercial electrician who thrives equally in a planned maintenance environment and an all-hands-on-deck emergency. You will own the electrical health of a live food manufacturing plant — from 480V three-phase distribution and motor controls to PLC panel troubleshooting and facility lighting — while rolling up your sleeves alongside the broader maintenance team on mechanical, HVAC, and general facility work whenever the operation demands it.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Electrical Systems & Infrastructure
- Maintain, inspect, and repair all electrical systems across the facility, including 480V/208V/120V distribution panels, switchgear, transformers, and branch circuits.
- Troubleshoot and restore motor control centers (MCC), variable frequency drives (VFD), and soft starters supporting production equipment
- Read, interpret, and redline electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and control wiring drawings
- Perform conduit work (EMT, rigid, flexible), wire pulls, panel terminations, and device installations to NEC standards
- Coordinate arc flash studies, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and ensure ongoing compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147 and 1910.303
- Support capital projects: new equipment installations, panel upgrades, lighting retrofits, and facility expansions
Controls & Automation
- Diagnose and repair PLC-controlled production and refrigeration systems; modify ladder logic under engineering supervision when required
- Maintain and troubleshoot automated packaging, pasteurization, and conveyance systems.
- Install and commission sensors, solenoids, photoelectric eyes, and safety interlocks
Cross-Functional Maintenance Support
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with the maintenance team on mechanical repairs: conveyor systems, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, and general production equipment.
- Assist HVAC/refrigeration technicians with electrical diagnostics on ammonia and glycol refrigeration systems supporting cheese aging and cold storage
- Perform plumbing and pneumatic repairs as needed during high-demand periods or planned shutdowns.
- Participate in weekend on-call rotation and respond to after-hours electrical emergencies to minimize production downtime
Preventive Maintenance & Documentation
- Execute scheduled PM tasks within the CMMS (or paper-based) work order system; document findings, parts used, and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate as-built drawings and equipment records
- Track and manage electrical parts inventory; initiate reorder requests for critical spares
- Identify energy efficiency opportunities and present recommendations to management
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a safety-first culture; model proper PPE use, LOTO compliance, and electrical safe work practices at all times
- Assist with FDA/USDA, OSHA, and insurance compliance inspections as they pertain to electrical and facility systems.
- Participate in root-cause analysis for electrical failures and implement corrective and preventive actions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Journeyman or Master Electrician license in the State of Connecticut (or reciprocal state with CT eligibility)
- 7+ years of commercial/industrial electrical experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing or food processing environment strongly preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in 3-phase power distribution, motor controls, conduit installation, and NEC code compliance
- Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control drawings
- Solid working knowledge of LOTO/OSHA electrical safety standards
- Willingness and physical ability to perform general maintenance tasks beyond the electrical scope when business needs require it
- Strong troubleshooting methodology; able to diagnose faults efficiently under time pressure
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in dairy, food & beverage, or FDA-regulated manufacturing
- Familiarity with ammonia or glycol refrigeration electrical systems
- Hands-on PLC experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry certification
- Experience with CMMS platforms (MP2, eMaint, Maintenance Connection, or similar)
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs, work at heights on ladders and elevated platforms, and work in confined spaces
- Comfortable working in a refrigerated and/or humid food manufacturing environment (temperatures ranging from 35°F to 90°F+)
- Must be available for on-call response and occasional weekend or holiday work
- Steel-toed boots and applicable PPE are required at all times in production areas
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
A competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including:
- Competitive hourly wage — market-rate for licensed commercial electricians in the Greater New Haven area
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Tool allowance and ongoing technical training support
- Stable, family-owned company with a legacy of quality since 1925
