Position Summary

Coleman Environmental Engineering is seeking a California Registered Professional Forester (RPF) to support vegetation management, wildfire mitigation, forest health, and fuels reduction programs for PG&E and CAL FIRE throughout California. This position will provide professional forestry expertise, project oversight, field assessments, regulatory compliance support, and technical guidance on projects designed to reduce wildfire risk and promote sustainable forest management.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of California forestry regulations, forest health principles, wildfire resilience strategies, and stakeholder coordination in both utility and public-sector environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct forestry assessments, timber and vegetation evaluations, and forest health inspections.
• Develop and implement forest management, fuels reduction, and wildfire mitigation recommendations.
• Prepare, review, and certify forestry-related documents in accordance with California forestry regulations.
• Support PG&E and CAL FIRE programs involving wildfire risk reduction, vegetation management, and forest resilience initiatives.
• Conduct field reviews and site assessments to evaluate vegetation conditions, fuel loading, and forest health concerns.
• Coordinate with landowners, agencies, utility representatives, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Assist with project planning, permitting, environmental compliance, and regulatory documentation.
• Review and interpret forestry data, maps, aerial imagery, and GIS information.
• Provide technical expertise regarding California forest practices, wildfire mitigation strategies, and vegetation management standards.
• Ensure projects comply with applicable California Forest Practice Rules, environmental regulations, and client requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and project documentation.
• Support quality assurance efforts and maintain accurate project records.

Required Qualifications

• Current California Registered Professional Forester (RPF) License – Required
• Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional forestry experience.
• Strong knowledge of California forestry regulations, forest management practices, and wildfire mitigation strategies.
• Experience conducting field-based forestry assessments and preparing technical reports.
• Familiarity with fuels management, forest health, and vegetation treatment planning.
• Proficiency with GIS platforms, GPS technology, mapping software, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting PG&E, CAL FIRE, USFS, or other public utility and government forestry programs.
• Knowledge of California Forest Practice Rules and CEQA processes.
• Experience with wildfire risk reduction, fuel break development, and landscape-scale vegetation management projects.
• ISA Certified Arborist and/or ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).
• Experience with environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk long distances over steep, uneven, and rugged terrain.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to travel throughout California as required.
• Ability to safely operate company vehicles and field equipment.
