About the Role
Thayer Scale is looking for a hands-on Manufacturing & Sustaining Electrical Engineer to help support and improve the industrial weighing and feeding equipment we build every day.
This is a practical engineering role for someone who enjoys working close to manufacturing, solving real production problems, improving documentation, supporting electrical systems, and helping make industrial equipment more reliable, buildable, testable, and serviceable.
You’ll work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Materials, Service, Sales, and vendors to support both existing products and newly released designs. This is a strong fit for an engineer who likes being on the shop floor, working through technical details, and turning recurring issues into lasting improvements.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
· Support production with troubleshooting, technical questions, and process improvements
· Help sustain and improve existing electrical and electro-mechanical products
· Review and update schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, test procedures, calibration procedures, and work instructions
· Support Engineering Change Orders, product updates, component substitutions, and documentation improvements
· Investigate production, service, supplier, and quality issues using practical root-cause analysis
· Improve production test methods, fixtures, calibration processes, and manufacturing documentation
· Support new product releases to ensure designs are buildable, testable, documented, and serviceable
· Work within a Lean Manufacturing environment to support continuous improvement
· Assist with electrical compliance activities, including UL 508A industrial control panel requirements and hazardous area classification considerations for applicable customer and product applications.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys solving problems in a manufacturing environment.
A strong candidate will have:
· Experience with industrial electrical systems, control panels, wiring, instrumentation, sensors, motors, drives, or similar equipment
· Ability to read and work with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, BOMs, and technical documentation
· Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
· Experience supporting manufacturing, sustaining engineering, product documentation, test procedures, or ECOs
· Comfort working directly with production, service, quality, sales, and engineering teams
· A detail-oriented approach to documentation, follow-through, and product support
· Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is a plus
· Experience with UL 508A or industrial control panel compliance is a plus
· Familiarity with hazardous area classification requirements or hazardous-location applications is a plus
