Overview:
The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation Graduate Fellowship was created to invest in emerging leaders who are passionate about improving community health through food, research, innovation, and collaboration.
This selective, one-year leadership fellowship offers exceptional graduate students the opportunity to work directly with Foundation leadership on strategic initiatives that strengthen nutrition, improve food access, advance healthy communities, and help shape the future of corporate philanthropy.
Through mentorship, applied learning, and meaningful project leadership, Fellows contribute to real-world initiatives while developing the skills, relationships, and experience to become the next generation of leaders in food systems, public health, and philanthropy.
Working directly with Foundation leadership, the Graduate Fellow will contribute to strategic initiatives that advance the Foundation’s mission through research, project management, data analysis, and innovation.
This Fellowship is designed for exceptional graduate students who are intellectually curious, highly organized, and passionate about creating healthier communities. Fellows gain hands-on experience at the intersection of food systems, corporate philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, and community impact while supporting initiatives with national reach.
Location: Store Support Office, Phoenix, AZ (in-office three days per week, part-time)
Essential Functions:
Key Responsibilities (assigned as needed from list below)
Strategic Initiatives & Project Leadership

Coordinate strategic Foundation initiatives from planning through implementation

Manage project timelines, deliverables, meetings, and follow-up actions

Prepare executive briefings, presentations, and project updates
-
Help quarterback cross-functional initiatives involving Foundation staff, nonprofit partners, researchers, and internal stakeholders
Research & Innovation

Conduct research on food systems, nutrition security, Food as Medicine, healthy retail, philanthropy, community health, and emerging trends

Translate research into concise executive briefs and strategic recommendations

Benchmark innovative organizations, universities, foundations, and community initiatives

Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and future Foundation initiatives
Data, Evaluation & Impact

Support collection, organization, and analysis of Foundation impact data

Assist in developing dashboards, reports, and visualizations that communicate outcomes

Research best practices in evaluation and impact measurement
-
Contribute to annual impact reporting and long-term strategic planning
Executive Support & Organizational Effectiveness

Prepare presentations, board materials, research summaries, and executive communications

Coordinate administrative details that support strategic initiatives

Identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness through thoughtful systems, project coordination, and AI-enabled tools
Fellowship Experience
Throughout the Fellowship, participants will:

Receive direct mentorship from Foundation leadership

Participate in strategic planning and cross-functional initiatives

Visit Foundation-funded nonprofit partners and community programs

Engage with leaders across philanthropy, food systems, healthcare, education, and nonprofit sectors

Attend conferences, meetings, and professional development opportunities, as appropriate

Build a professional network spanning academia, philanthropy, and nonprofit organizations
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:
We are seeking an exceptional graduate student who combines intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking, initiative, humility, and a passion for healthier communities.
Preferred qualifications include:

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a master’s program in Food Systems, Nutrition, Public Health, Sustainability, Public Policy, Business, Nonprofit Management, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, or a related field

Outstanding research, writing, analytical, and project management skills

Ability to synthesize complex information into clear recommendations

Excellent communication and presentation skills

Interest in AI tools and emerging technologies

Passion for healthy food, healthier communities, and mission-driven leadership
