The Quality Manager is responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing a new Quality Management System (QMS) at the New Bedford facility, with ISO 9001:2015 certification targeted for Q4 2027. The role authors the Quality Manual, procedures, and work instructions; builds the document control, internal audit, corrective action, calibration, and supplier quality programs. The Quality Manager also trains employees on the new system and coordinates with the registrar throughout the certification process. Post-certification, the Quality Manager continues to own QMS maintenance, customer complaint resolution, and quality leadership for the plant, ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable product, regulatory, and customer requirements.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Standards:
1) Leads the design, documentation, and implementation of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System for the New Bedford facility, with certification targeted for Q4 2027. Develops the certification project plan within the timeline and milestones set by the Protective Lining SHEQ Manager, owns day-to-day execution, escalates major decisions for approval, and coordinates with the registrar. Reports progress to plant leadership and the SHEQ Manager.
2) Authors the Quality Manual and the procedures, forms, and records required by ISO 9001:2015, in coordination with plant operations and the SHEQ Manager.
3) Walks the production floor with operators and supervisors to map current processes – thermoforming, trimming, finishing, packaging, and shipping – and translates them into clear, controlled work instructions, setup sheets, inspection plans, and visual aids.
4) Establishes the document and record control system required by ISO 9001:2015 Clause 7.5, ensuring every operator and inspector works from the current, approved revision.
5) Establishes and runs the internal audit program – schedule, auditor training, audits against all ISO 9001:2015 clauses, finding documentation, and closure. Hosts third-party certification and customer audits.
6) Builds and leads the corrective and preventive action program. Investigates customer complaints and internal nonconformities, conducts root cause analysis, verifies corrective action effectiveness, and reviews trends with the Management Lead Team.
7) Has ultimate authority over the shipment of product and accepts responsibility for compliance with regulatory and company standards. Supervises tagging, quarantine, and disposition of suspect and nonconforming material at receiving, in-process, and finished-goods inspection areas.
8) Establishes and maintains the calibration program for production and inspection measurement equipment.
9) Establishes the supplier quality program – supplier evaluation, approved supplier list, incoming acceptance, and supplier corrective actions. Coordinates vendor inspections and resolves quality issues with vendors and customers.
10) Establishes quality metrics and KPIs and leads the management review process per ISO 9001:2015 Clause 9.3. Trains operators, supervisors, and office staff on the QMS and quality fundamentals.
11) Prepares reports and documentation required by customers, regulatory agencies, and certification bodies; ensures compliance with applicable product, material, and customer specifications.
