Help Transform the Future of Government
At OptimaGov, we're building technology that fundamentally changes how government operates.
Our mission is to empower public agencies through intelligent automation that eliminates repetitive work, improves operational efficiency, and enables government professionals to focus on creating greater value for the communities they serve.
You'll have the opportunity to help build innovative systems used by government agencies across the United States while working on challenging, meaningful problems with real-world impact.
About the Role
We are seeking a Director of Automation to lead the design, development, and deployment of next-generation automation platforms for government organizations nationwide. In this role, you'll work directly with executive leadership to define technical strategy, architect scalable software solutions, and build technologies that solve complex operational challenges.
This is a highly technical, hands-on leadership position, not a traditional management role. We're looking for someone who enjoys building as much as leading. You'll apply software engineering, mathematics, data science, cybersecurity, and modern AI-assisted development practices to create secure, scalable automation systems that fundamentally improve how organizations operate.
If you're energized by difficult engineering problems, elegant algorithms, automation, and designing systems that have measurable real-world impact, you'll thrive in this role.
What You'll Do
- Continuously evaluate and implement the latest AI technologies, development tools, and automation frameworks to make OptimaGov's engineering team as efficient, productive, and innovative as possible.
- Design and develop enterprise automation platforms using Python and modern software engineering practices.
- Architect scalable software systems that process, transform, and analyze complex operational data.
- Build secure, production-quality applications with an emphasis on performance, maintainability, and reliability.
- Design intelligent matching, classification, workflow, and decision-support systems.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate engineering productivity while maintaining high-quality code.
- Develop automation frameworks that improve customer onboarding, implementation, and operational scalability.
- Design and implement secure software architectures that protect sensitive information.
- Incorporate cybersecurity best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve products and engineering workflows.
- Collaborate directly with executive leadership to define technical strategy and future product direction.
- Mentor engineers while remaining actively involved in software design and development.
- Continuously improve system performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is an exceptional software engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems through automation. You are naturally interested in leveraging the latest advancements in AI and technology while continuously looking for opportunities to eliminate manual work, think critically about complex systems, and design elegant solutions that combine software engineering, mathematics, and data-driven decision-making.
You are equally comfortable architecting large-scale systems, writing production code, evaluating new technologies, and helping shape the technical direction of a growing company.
We want someone always looking for how best to leverage cutting-edge technology advancements.
Required Qualifications
- Experience leveraging AI and automation to optimize commercial software development processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices.
- Familiarity with secure software development principles and cybersecurity best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- Background in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, or another quantitative field.
- Experience with financial analytics or accounting products
- Experience building enterprise software, workflow automation platforms, or large-scale data processing systems.
- Experience with machine learning, large language models (LLMs), agentic AI, or AI-powered software development.
- Experience using Python libraries such as pandas, Polars, NumPy, or similar.
- Experience automating commercial software development processes or improving engineering workflows through AI and automation.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, secure architecture, encryption, identity and access management, or compliance environments such as SOC 2, NIST, FedRAMP, CJIS, or HIPAA.
