Description:

FSMA believes that a speech/communication specialist is an integral part of our school. We recognize that this person must embody the spirit of the school and have a great depth of skills. Along with daily speech caseload, there may be other responsibilities - providing presentations for classrooms on relevant topics, working with teachers and families around communication needs of students or outside resources, communicating with families and staff to create a consistent approach, and creating a school environment where every child has their speech and language needs met.

Specific Responsibilities include:

The candidate will provide clinical diagnosis, prescription and support to reduce or eliminate speech, language and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual student's ability to succeed in the classroom setting.

In addition, to this, our speech/language pathologist will:

• Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
• Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
• Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
• Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students’ needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
• Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
• Provide professional development and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech services.
• Maintain lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
• Collaborate with the MTSS team to ensure student needs outside of Special Education are met.
• Develop, implement and monitor IEPs for students.

Qualifications:

• Delaware license as a speech pathologist. (Individuals interested in working in a Delaware public school as a speech-language pathologist are not licensed/certified through the Delaware Department of Education. However, in order to be employed in a Delaware public or charter school, such individuals must hold licensure through the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation.
• Master's Degree or equivalent with major emphasis in speech-language pathology, communication disorders or speech-language and hearing science.
• Satisfactory completion of Praxis Speech/Language Pathology.

Salary and benefits information: Full-Time Salary Scale is highly competitive with surrounding districts and is based on years of experience and degrees. Salary Scales can be sent upon request. Pension and benefits included for full-time staff. Parking provided.

Pay: $47,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
