Who You Are:
You are a senior Solutions Engineer with a specialty in Microsoft cloud security. You thrive in Professional Services because you like taking a client need, turning it into a clear technical plan, and then delivering the work in a way that is secure, well-documented, and easy for the client to understand.
You have moved beyond routine Microsoft 365 administration. You can assess an environment, identify gaps, design secure configurations, implement advanced Microsoft capabilities, and explain why those decisions matter to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are comfortable working across identity, endpoints, data protection, collaboration, logging, monitoring, compliance, privacy, and security operations.
You enjoy the challenge of a fast-paced MSP environment where every client is different and the work matters. You can lead projects, troubleshoot complex issues, communicate clearly, document thoroughly, and partner well with internal teams. You bring strong technical judgment, but you also understand that consulting requires patience, context, and the ability to meet people where they are.
You write and communicate in a clear and professional manner. You hold yourself accountable without being closely managed, and you take pride in delivering work that is clean, repeatable, supportable, and aligned to the larger goals of the customer and Uprise.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Solutions Engineer, Microsoft Cloud Security to join our Professional Services Team. This is a hands-on, client-facing engineering role focused on advanced Microsoft security, compliance, identity, governance, endpoint management, and security operations projects across the Uprise client base.
In this role, you will lead Microsoft-focused projects from discovery through design, deployment, validation, documentation, and client handoff. You will work closely with Uprise leadership, vCIOs, Service Desk, Managed Services, and client stakeholders to deliver secure, practical, and well-scoped solutions that improve customer environments.
This is not a front-line ticket queue role. It is a senior project delivery and technical advisory role for someone who can bring structure to ambiguous requirements, translate risk and compliance needs into Microsoft technical controls, and help Uprise standardize repeatable Microsoft security, compliance, and governance offerings.
What You'll Do
In this role you will:
· Lead the implementation of client-facing Microsoft cloud security, identity, compliance, endpoint, and governance projects.
· Design and configure Microsoft Entra ID capabilities, including Conditional Access, MFA, identity governance, Entitlement Management, privileged access, guest access, enterprise applications, app registrations, service principals, and role-based access control.
· Improve identity security posture through least privilege, administrative role design, external collaboration controls, access reviews, and inactive account governance.
· Deploy and configure Microsoft Purview capabilities including sensitivity labels, retention, DLP, information protection, eDiscovery support, audit logging, and data lifecycle controls.
· Support privacy and data protection initiatives using Microsoft Priva and related Microsoft 365 capabilities, including personal data discovery, privacy risk reduction, and subject rights support.
· Design, configure, and tune Microsoft Sentinel workspaces, data connectors, analytics rules, incidents, workbooks, automation rules, playbooks, and cost-conscious log collection strategies.
· Use Microsoft Defender XDR and related Defender tools to improve visibility, detection, investigation, and response across endpoints, identity, email, cloud apps, and Microsoft 365 services.
· Develop and tune KQL queries for threat hunting, alert validation, reporting, dashboards, and operational visibility.
· Configure and improve Microsoft Intune policies, endpoint compliance, security baselines, device configuration, app protection, and Conditional Access integration.
· Translate security, compliance, and governance requirements into practical Microsoft technical controls aligned with frameworks such as CIS Controls, NIST, CMMC readiness, GDPR/UK GDPR, and cyber insurance requirements.
· Create and manage concise project plans tailored to project size, scope, complexity, and client readiness.
· Provide hands-on technical support throughout projects, addressing challenges promptly and optimizing solutions.
· Create clear technical documentation, including current-state assessments, implementation plans, configuration standards, as-built documentation, risk findings, and executive-ready summaries.
· Serve as a senior escalation point and subject matter expert for advanced Microsoft cloud security, compliance, identity, and governance questions.
· Travel on-site to support customers as needed.
· Constantly focus on delighting all Uprise customers.
Success in this role means improving client Microsoft security and compliance posture through practical, well-documented implementations that reduce risk, create consistency, and can be supported long after the project is complete.
QualificationsRequired
· 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, systems administration, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 engineering, or Professional Services project delivery.
· 4+ years of hands-on experience in an MSP, MSSP, consulting firm, or client-facing technology services organization.
· 3+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID in production environments.
· Experience implementing advanced Microsoft security and compliance capabilities such as Conditional Access, MFA, Intune, Defender, Purview, DLP, sensitivity labels, retention, audit logging, Sentinel, or identity governance.
· Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 security architecture across identity, endpoints, email, collaboration, data protection, audit logging, and administrative role design.
· Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, KQL, log analysis, security monitoring, alert tuning, or incident investigation.
· Ability to translate security, compliance, and governance requirements into technical configurations.
· Strong client-facing communication skills and the ability to present recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
· Strong written documentation skills, including implementation plans, technical notes, as-built documentation, and executive-facing summaries.
· Ability to work independently in an async environment aligned to U.S. Eastern Time.
· Strong attention to detail, accountability, and a customer-focused delivery mindset.
Preferred
· Experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven environments.
· Experience with CIS Controls, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, GDPR/UK GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar frameworks.
· Experience with Microsoft Defender XDR, Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, Defender for Cloud Apps, Defender for Cloud, and Microsoft Purview compliance capabilities.
· Experience with Microsoft Priva, PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Logic Apps, Azure Functions, or other automation approaches.
· Experience designing secure guest access, cross-tenant collaboration, application permissions, service principals, and enterprise application governance.
· Experience evaluating Microsoft licensing options, especially Business Premium, E3, E5, EMS, Defender, Sentinel, and compliance add-ons.
· Experience with Windows Desktop, Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure, Intune, VPN, firewalls, endpoint security, documentation platforms, and remote monitoring tools.
· Experience with EDR solutions such as SentinelOne, Bitdefender, CrowdStrike, or similar tools.
· Experience with documentation platforms such as ITGlue, Hudu, SharePoint, or similar knowledge base platforms.
Preferred Certifications
· Microsoft security and cloud certifications such as AZ-500, SC-200, SC-300, SC-400, SC-100, MS-102, or MD-102 are strongly preferred.
· Security+, CySA+, CISSP, CCSP, CISM, CISA, CCNA Security, or similar security certifications are also preferred.
· CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Azure AZ-900, VMware VCP, or similar infrastructure certifications are a plus.
Success Measures
· Improves client Microsoft security and compliance posture through practical, well-documented implementations.
· Reduces identity, data protection, endpoint, and security monitoring gaps across client environments.
· Delivers projects on time with clear documentation and minimal rework.
· Serves as a trusted technical advisor to Uprise teams and client stakeholders.
· Helps Uprise standardize repeatable Microsoft security, compliance, and governance service offerings.
· Supports Professional Services delivery with strong project ownership, communication, documentation, and client satisfaction.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a senior Solutions Engineer with deep Microsoft cloud security expertise, strong consulting instincts, practical implementation experience, and the ability to work confidently with executives, technical teams, and client stakeholders. They understand that Microsoft security requires thoughtful design across identity, endpoints, data, collaboration, logging, monitoring, privacy, compliance, and operations.
They are equally comfortable leading a project, writing clean documentation, explaining risk to a client, tuning a Sentinel rule, designing Conditional Access, reviewing Purview configuration, and partnering with the Uprise team to turn complex technical work into repeatable service delivery.
Equal Opportunity
