Position: Dean of Nursing Programs

Job Summary
The Dean of Nursing Programs provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all nursing programs offered by the College, including the Practical Nursing (PN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and RN-to-BSN programs. The Dean is responsible for ensuring program quality, regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, curriculum effectiveness, faculty development, and student success outcomes.
The Dean directly supervises the Assistant Department Chairs and collaborates closely with the Director of Education to support faculty, resolve student concerns, maintain academic quality, and ensure compliance with institutional, state, federal, and accrediting agency requirements. The Dean serves as the senior nursing academic administrator and represents the College with regulatory agencies, healthcare partners, and professional organizations.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Administration
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all nursing programs.
- Supervise and mentor Assistant Department Chairs responsible for PN, BSN, and RN-to-BSN programs.
- Collaborate with the President and Director of Education to establish strategic goals and objectives for nursing education that meet accreditation standards.
- Support the Director of Education in addressing student concerns regarding faculty, curriculum, instructional quality, and academic matters. The Director of Education serves as the initial point of contact for student concerns, with the Dean providing consultation, and assistance with escalated matters as needed.
- Develop and implement operational procedures that support student success and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor program outcomes and develop action plans to improve retention, graduation, licensure, and employment outcomes.
- Participate in institutional planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Generate administrative reports related to nursing program operations, outcomes, and compliance.
Faculty Leadership
- Direct the recruitment, selection, onboarding, mentoring, evaluation, and professional development of nursing faculty.
- Collaborate with Assistant Department Chairs to determine faculty teaching assignments and workload distribution.
- Support faculty development initiatives and promote excellence in teaching and student engagement.
- Facilitate faculty meetings in partnership with the Assistant Chairs to foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance and support regarding faculty performance, professional expectations, and instructional quality.
Curriculum and Academic Quality
- Provide oversight of curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and revision for all nursing programs.
- Ensure curriculum alignment with current nursing practice standards, healthcare trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with faculty and Assistant Department Chairs to evaluate course outcomes and recommend improvements.
- Support innovative teaching methodologies, simulation, virtual simulation, and technology-enhanced learning.
- Recommend textbooks, instructional materials, and educational resources.
Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all requirements established by the state board of nursing, CCNE, ACEN, CNEA, and/or other applicable agencies.
- Monitor changes in nursing education regulations and accreditation standards.
- Lead preparation for accreditation reviews, regulatory surveys, and site visits.
- Ensure all nursing programs adhere to approved policies, procedures, and standards.
- Attend regulatory meetings, professional conferences, on-site accreditation visits and trainings as appropriate.
Student Success and Academic Affairs
- Collaborate with the Director of Education and Assistant Department Chairs to address student concerns, grievances, appeals, and academic issues when necessary.
- Ensure due process is followed in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications
Required
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution.
- Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license.
- Minimum five years of nursing practice experience.
- Minimum three years of nursing management or nursing education leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience supervising nursing faculty.
- Experience in curriculum development, program evaluation, and educational outcomes assessment.
- Knowledge of nursing education regulations, accreditation standards, and higher education administration.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and educational technology platforms.
Preferred
- Experience in proprietary, private, or career-focused higher education.
- Experience managing multiple nursing programs.
- Experience with accreditation agencies including CCNE, CNEA, ACEN, or similar organizations.
- Experience leading regulatory reviews and accreditation visits.
Location Requirements
Candidates must reside in the Pacific Northwest with the ability to travel campuses periodically, generally one to two times per quarter, with additional travel during accreditation visits, regulatory reviews, or special projects.ce, and community impact!
