The primary responsibility of the Service Plumber is to respond to service calls, troubleshoot, and resolve issues efficiently and professionally. This role requires strong technical ability, clear communication, and a commitment to doing the job right the first time.

This position includes participation in a rotating, after-hours on-call schedule and may involve mentoring apprentices.

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Service Technician is to respond to service calls, trouble-shoot, and satisfactorily resolve problems. As such, the Service Plumber will be scheduled for weekly, after-hours, on-call shifts and must be able to respond quickly. The Service Plumber may also mentor service apprentices and will direct them appropriately.

Requirements include:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 (five) years of experience in the plumbing trade
• Must own and be skilled at using tools of the trade that include hand tools and cordless power tools
• Must be available for weekly on-call shifts
• Basic mathematics

Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Typical service and repair on faucets, toilets, valves, waterlines & wastelines.
• Cleaning and clearing of drain lines such as tubs, sinks, floor drains, showers, and main lines by the use of cable machines and/or hydro-jetters.
• CCTV and location of waste lines.
• Re-piping /replacement of water and waste lines.
• Installation and repair of electric, solar, gas and tankless water heaters.
• Provide a level of customer service that ruptures industry standards.
• Ensure compliance of the Maui Plumbing Housekeeping Duties and General Practices attached to this Job Description.
• Participate in supporting Maui Plumbing’s Apprentice Program and any other continuing education.
• Perform other duties as directed by superiors.

Licensure/Certifications

• Valid State of Hawaii driver license and clean abstract
• State of Hawaii Journeyman Plumber License, not required but highly favorable

This may mean breaking the task down into more manageable segments or splitting the task between a team. Approaching a project methodically will produce better results than simply jumping straight in and trying to find an immediate solution.
• Speaking and Listening Skills - Professionals must be able to communicate effectively when speaking to people. Demonstrating that you can communicate complex information to a non-technical audience is also required of a Specialty Contractor. In any verbal communication you should always ensure that you speak carefully and clearly so that you are easily understood. Know your Audience.
• Collaborative Working - Establishing strong partnerships with fellow professionals and outside agencies. Being able to promote inter-departmental working and relationships with other organizations is essential in Construction. Collaborative working can involve a range of different aspects including networks, partnerships or alliances.
• Problem Solving - Solving problems is a fundamental skill that all Maui Plumbing employees should possess. It could range from something as simple as a paper jam to addressing a staff shortage to something much more technical, such as overcoming a major inefficiency on a large construction project. Systematic approach to solving problems all problems.
• Mentoring – Effective at coaching and mentor junior staff. Managers should also possess these skills. Work well with colleagues or partners to offer coaching and mentoring to enhance their skills or advance their knowledge.

Pay: $35.00 - $70.00 per hour
