Foreman — Grounds Maintenance & Excavation

A confidential grounds maintenance employer in the North Platte area is seeking an experienced Foreman to lead daily field operations at an assigned site. This is a hands-on supervisory role requiring strong grounds maintenance, excavation, equipment operation, and crew leadership experience.
The Foreman will be responsible for leading daily site operations, supervising field personnel, operating equipment, ensuring work is completed safely and correctly, and maintaining a high-standard public-facing property.
Position Requirements
The Foreman must have:
- 6+ years of experience in a supervisory-type position performing grounds maintenance and excavation tasks
- Experience leading and directing crews in an outdoor maintenance, landscaping, cemetery, public works, parks, agricultural, construction, or similar field environment
- Excavation and heavy equipment operation experience
- Ability to work on-site during normal operating hours, typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Ability to respond to operational needs involving weather, snow/ice, services/events, equipment, irrigation, cleanup, and site conditions
- Strong attendance, reliability, judgment, and communication skills
- Ability to perform physical outdoor work in heat, cold, wind, snow, ice, and changing weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license required
Responsibilities
- Serve as the assigned on-site Foreman for daily grounds maintenance and excavation operations
- Lead, supervise, and direct crew members during normal operating hours
- Assign daily tasks and verify that work is completed safely, correctly, and on schedule
- Operate commercial mowing equipment, tractors, utility vehicles, skid steer, excavator, and other grounds or heavy equipment as needed
- Perform and oversee excavation-related work, soil handling, backfilling, tamping, grading, turf repair, and site restoration
- Support sod removal and replacement, turf restoration, and related site maintenance work as required
- Maintain turf areas, roads, walkways, parking areas, public-facing grounds, and work areas to a high standard
- Support snow and ice removal operations, including weekends and holidays when required
- Maintain safe access to roadways, curbs, sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, shelters, and work areas
- Monitor site conditions and report operational issues, staffing concerns, equipment issues, irrigation problems, and safety hazards to management
- Assist with irrigation monitoring and basic troubleshooting, including identifying leaks, breaks, controller issues, valve issues, or other system concerns
- Ensure daily cleanup of debris, trash, tools, equipment, and work areas
- Train crew members on proper work methods, safety requirements, equipment use, and quality expectations
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and accountable work environment
- Document daily work progress, attendance, equipment issues, and site concerns as directed
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior construction, excavation, public works, cemetery, municipal, parks, government, or institutional grounds maintenance experience
- Experience with snow and ice removal
- Experience with irrigation systems
- Herbicide or pesticide applicator certification preferred
- Experience operating excavators, skid steers, tractors, commercial mowers, and utility vehicles
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is steady, experienced, practical, and capable of leading from the field. This person must be able to supervise a crew, operate equipment safely, solve field problems, maintain professional standards, and take ownership of the assigned site.
This is not a desk position. The Foreman is expected to be present, visible, hands-on, and accountable for daily site performance.
Schedule
Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Schedule may vary based on weather, snow/ice events, services/events, workload, or urgent operational needs. Some weekends and holidays may be required.
Compensation
Competitive pay based on experience.
Pay: $24.84 - $29.92 per hour
