Position Summary:
As a Material Handler, your primary responsibility will be to perform daily tasks related to the transfer of dry bulk and liquid chemicals for customers storing them in railcars or aboveground tanks. This includes ensuring proper product identification, verifying vessel inventory, setting up and connecting hoses, safely transferring chemicals, preventing spills, containing spills, conducting product sampling, and following operating procedures to ensure accurate handling of each chemical transfer. You will be expected to comply with all regulatory laws and company ISO-9001 quality procedures.
Position Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent education.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficient in reading, writing, and performing basic math calculations.
Physical capability to climb ladders and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively use personal protective equipment.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in chemical handling.
Scope of Responsibilities and Accountability:
Primary Responsibilities:
Chemical Loading and Unloading:
- Perform daily loading and unloading tasks as per customer service instructions.
- Inspect receiving vessels for product securement and cleanliness.
- Safely operate material handling equipment to service customer accounts.
Procedure Adherence:
Read service orders and accurately follow written instructions.
Immediately report any known instruction errors to the department supervisor.
Comply with all regulatory laws and company ISO-9001 quality procedures.
Safety and Cooperation:
- Work in a safe and cooperative manner with fellow employees.
- Advise supervision of work in progress to maintain the production schedule.
- Inform the department supervisor of any non-conformance issues in accordance with the ISO-9001 quality program.
Compliance:
- Adhere to regulatory training requirements.
- Follow proper procedures for spill prevention and containment.
- Conduct product sampling in accordance with established protocols.
- Secondary Responsibilities:
Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the department supervisor.
Reporting Responsibilities and Staffing:
This position reports to the Liquid Packaging Supervisor of 3 River Terminal through direct communications.
