HVAC Technician III (Grade 9)

Hiring Range: $32.49 - $52.03/hour ($60,927 - $97,560/year)

Prince William County Schools, the second largest school system in Virginia, is hiring an HVAC Technician II. This position is skilled master-level work inspecting, servicing, adjusting, repairing, and maintaining electric, gas, and oil equipment, commercial air conditioning systems and all related components throughout the Prince William County School System. This position requires supervisory work on an occasional basis. The position performs work under the general supervision of the shop foreman.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Troubleshoots, diagnoses problems, and performs and/or leads lower skill level subordinates involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of all heating, air conditioning and HVAC control systems
• Develops preventive maintenance schedules and performs or directs required preventive maintenance work
• Develops and conveys drawings modifications for construction of equipment changes to be incorporated into as-built drawings by the maintenance drafting group
• Requisitions shop equipment, tools and supplies as delegated; maintains stock and inventory records, as well as maintains cleanliness of the shop
• Estimates work order time and material costs, and maintains records for reports as required
• Instructs lower skill level employees
• Attends classes or seminars related to the repair and maintenance of heating and cooling equipment and associated controls
• Responds to emergency duty assignments when required by supervisor
• Performs HVAC designs and calculations in accordance with the mechanical code and accepted engineering practice
• Acts in the absence of HVAC Foreman for limited periods of time, as required

Experience:

• HVAC: 5 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Master's certification in building-related mechanical work (Preferred)
• Journeyman’s gas fitters certification (Preferred)
