Job purpose
This position must be able to perform visual inspections and tests on high end, engineered specific, quality hydraulic cylinders for the OEM. He/she must be able to notice possible welding defects, use test and measuring instruments, and monitor any repairs to faulty welds. He/she will responsible for inspecting and assessing the strength and quality of welds, ensure the correct equipment is being used, check weld specifications, and ensure all safety regulations are being adhered to.
Duties and responsibilities
· Approval welding procedures in accordance with ASME, AWS, EN and ISO standards
· Have a basic understanding of welding techniques, welding positions, welding consumables, weld preparation and welding drawing requirements. Maintaining a detailed inspector's logbook.
· Assure any design changes or material substitutions are discussed with Engineer Manager, Production Manager and Director of Operations.
· Possess an understanding of the relationship between quality assurance, quality control and engineering.
· Interpret and review engineering drawings as required
· Verify tack weld quality
· Verify preheat and interpass temperatures
· Support quality programs by following all rules, established processes, and proper work procedures as defined by the supervisor, or written procedure.
· Monitor the execution of welding work in progress to ensure that it complies with the applicable codes, standards, and job specific job requirements
· Be responsible for overall weld quality, workmanship and for making sure that all weldments are 100% visually inspected.
· Be responsible for the execution of welding inspection procedures and protocols as specified in the company's Quality Management System manuals and process documentation.
· Be responsible for assuring that only qualified and certified welders are used, as specified by contract documents for the welding process and procedures permitted for use.
· Be responsible for assuring continuity of the welders’ qualifications as required by the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 and D1.3.
· Evaluate completed weld elements for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and job requirements.
· Assessing the quality and strength of completed welds.
· Demonstrating correct welding procedures.
· Perform internal and external inspections to determine if a weldments meets the acceptance criteria of a specific code, standard or document
· Conducts inspection of welding equipment to ensure proper settings and operations.
· Responsible for making recommendations to improve the overall process and efficiency.
· Completing and submitting inspection, rework, and audits report in an efficient/timely manner.
· Develops work instructions, procedures, and assists with quality and manufacturing personnel training.
· Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures and regulations.
· Assist in training and developing of other teammates
· Weld Inspector may be assigned additional duties and responsibilities relating to hydraulic cylinder creation inspection observation and documentation as appropriate.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
· Highly recommended High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
· Some vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience, required.
· Current American Welding Society certified welding inspector (CWI)
Previous Experience Preferred:
· 5+ years of experience in an occupational function that has a direct relationship to the design, production, construction, or repair of weldments being fabricated to a specific code.
· Extensive knowledge of industry standards including AWS
· 2+ years of experience in welding inspection
· Quality system experience preferred
· Supervisor experience preferred

· Physical Capacity Profile level 3 required.
· Prolonged periods standing and walking
