Pros

Allen Institute is one of the leading organizations for advancing fundamental knowledge in the life sciences, with a focus on brain science. Teams are involved in a diverse array of research techniques, which allows research associates to participate in exhange programs within the institute to learn new techniques beyond their day to day responsibilities. This is a team oriented institution, and they are always hosting events and workshops where you can learn not only science, but also about culture, leadership, and experience from the people at Allen (Allenites). Allen Institute feels like college 4.0, there are affinity groups/cultural groups, internship opportunities, weekly lectures, workshops, trainings, and more. Wether you are looking for a long term job or to get experience for graduate school, Allen is 100% the place to go to.

Cons

Currently, non-executive/leadership members are trying to unionize, and given the current times, this couldn't happen at a worse time. Grants are already scarce, and the Institute has had to cut teams and layoffs are happening. However, some things are outside of the Institute's control. Leadership has been open to listening to employees, but it is questionable why the majority of board members just represent one demographic instead of reflecting the values the Allen Institute advocates for. Additionally, there are no strong benefits for childcare, which can be a big deterrent for families with small children.
