Pros

Clemson University is a great place to work. There is plenty of support for anyone who is wanting to further their professional development or even just to expand their knowledge through edication. Educational opportunities abound and are supported bu management.

Cons

Working for the state of SC has its challenges. Our government has relied on consumption to provide revenue for government, including higher education. This has made the recent downturn in the economy and the resulting budget cuts very challenging.

Pros

My salary is slightly higher than some colleagues in similar positions at other universities

Cons

Clemson has little regard for the welfare of the faculty as evidenced by how they have handled the pandemic. Most of the protections we have were fought for, and initially (pre-vaccine), they used scare tactics to keep faculty from teaching remotely because the conservative student base (and EXTREMELY conservative BOT) believed/believes that Coronovirus is a hoax. Unless you fit into the "good ole white boy" mold, you are going to face constant microagressions (at best) without empathy from anyone other than those going through the same thing. Moving to Clemson was my biggest professional mistake, and I can't wait to escape.
