Burnt Out

Pros

The people. The front line staff. The Managers. The Directors.

Cons

A lazy executive leadership team who come and go as they please. These executives have been with the company for less than 12 months and continuously take vacations for weeks at a time while getting paid hefty salaries loaded with sign-on bonuses and large stock packages. What exactly have you all accomplished besides killing our culture? People are leaving PetMeds left and right. The culture WE built is completely dead. Poor communication from the Executive Leadership team. Unmotivated staff. Low salaries. Stifled growth. Rapid Employee turnover. A workplace that leaves you burnt out!!

This is Matt Hulett, CEO of PetMeds. I wanted to personally acknowledge your comments. I will lead with; turnarounds are never easy. It has been my experience over the last 30 years that change brings out feelings of anxiety and anger. It is similar to the process of grief, and I get that it’s hard. Leading by empowerment, transparency and passion is my style. I’m not perfect, nor do I claim to be. About a year ago, our Glassdoor rating was at a grade of 2 and now it is 4+. I am proud of my team, the leadership team, line managers and all employees for evolving EVEN more. We have all worked together to improve on a great foundation that was built before us. We have increased compensation across EVERY position in the organization as an immediate response to inflation. We implemented a parental leave plan for both Moms and Dads equally because we want to make sure our employees can take the time they need to bond with their new family members. We reduced the cost of benefits substantially so that our employees could put more money back into their pockets. This list goes on and on. New Management

Pros

Decent health insurance coverage, but it's expensive.

Due to changes in leadership over the past few months, we've had three awesome Pharmacists leave the company. This has NEVER happened in my eight years at PetMeds. We are always buried in orders, and the massive workload creates a tremendous amount of pressure for the entire department. On top of that, new management has attempted to implement changes that have caused further delays and added stress to the entire team. The communication between leadership and staff is incredibly poor. Nobody ever has any answers to my important questions regarding process, pay, benefits, evaluations, and bonuses. It is as if we have no leadership in the Pharmacy anymore. This was never the case before.

Hi, Thank you for your comments. We understand that change is never easy. As you know, regulatory and compliance procedures also tend to be rigid. We are also addressing the workload through additional hiring. HR is always a slack away... if an answer is not available, they will always investigate and point you in the right direction of who should help you with your needs. Clueless executive leadership

Pros

-At heart the company truly cares about pets -Everyone outside of the C-suite and new senior management is incredibly knowledgeable about the industry and very easy to work with

Cons

There were definitely some issues with the previous management at PetMeds but on the whole they were receptive to positive and negative feedback and treated everyone as equal. All of that changed when the new CEO took over. After she joined, she began running the company behind a curtain, speaking with (but not listening to) very few long term employees and refusing to use the company’s established means of communications. The team of executives she brought on also have limited respect for employees. If you expect them to attend a meeting they scheduled you would be sorely mistaken, and even if they do show up they will be grossly underprepared and have nothing meaningful to add. If the SLT is aligned (which seems questionable at best) it is clear they are trying to gut the company and either sell it or run it in their own fashion, which seems like a poor decision given they have a combined 0 years of experience in the industry. Until the SLT gets a better understanding of the space and develops an ounce of respect for their direct reports, please do not consider working here.
