Pros

Great benefits Really nice office Just a wonderful, wonderful CEO/President (but he's no longer president) Name recognition

Cons

Oh geez, I really don't know what to say. Just do want to say that the CEO is such a kind, gentle person. He used to be both the CEO and President, but he's not the President anymore. So, yellow flags over the last few years were popping up. Biggest red flag was a few months ago. We were at a leadership conference, and one of the managers was asked: "Would you rather be 'respected' or 'feared' as a leader?" Not even hesitating that person said "feared." I couldn't believe my ears and tried to let it go. I just thought maybe it was a joke response? Did anyone else hear that and think "that's not good?" But I think that's what the culture has become. So many firings lately. And it's like a few of those people, I'm thinking "wow, these people were doing a really good job". There has been more turnover in management, since CEO is no longer president, than I've seen in years. Seems like to be safe, people that seem "cut-throat" to me aren't worried, which I guess the new leadership thinks is a good thing.

Pros

It's a very relaxed environment. The employees are friendly. My bosses really do care, and that's tough to find.

Cons

Of the last 4 people I know who have received a promotion and have received increased responsibility, not a single one of them received an increase in pay.

The WD-40 Company Americas tribe have the benefit of compensation transparency. Every tribe member has visibility to his/her base salary within the assigned salary range. Each tribe member’s base salary is determine by his/her competency or ability to perform the role. Competency is determined by level of know-how and ability problem solve. Our tribe members meet with their coaches quarterly to strategize on ways to improve their competency. As a tribe members competency improves, so does his/her base salary – it is a successful recipe that we apply globally. Because we have a strong culture of promoting from within (30 promotions in 2017), our tribe members are often promoted into new positions and receive training and development support to advance their competency and skills needed to thrive in their new roles. Typically, when a tribe member is promoted his/her competency and base salary may be lower in the salary range until they learn the ropes, acquire the new skills needed to execute the role and are able to act with greater levels of independence. Talented tribe members accept promotional opportunities because it fits their professional goals and for the opportunity to grow their total rewards. Our meritocracy is not for everyone but it is fair and it is transparent. Our long-term compensation incentives play a significant role in our high employee tenure and low turnover. We work hard, play hard and are generously rewarded. Side note: our market driven compensation is moderated at 50% of the local market and is reviewed annually to ensure we are competitive within our global markets. Our generous profit sharing, 401K matching and earned incentives (bonus) place our overall compensation above 100% of market. Cha-ching.
