AFS has two health insurance plans: a High Deductible Plan option and a traditional PPO Plan option. With the PPO option, there is a set copay for prescriptions that is standard across most health plans. With the High Deductible plan, prescriptions cost the negotiated rate, and can end up being a little more expensive. This is typical for most High Deductible plans. Since that is the case, our plan requires providers to prescribe the generic version of the prescription, if available. Also, the High Deductible plan premiums are lower than the PPO premiums and AFS provides $50 per paycheck into a Health Savings Account to employees on the High Deductible Plan. With the combination of these practices, many times the overall out of pocket costs for the High Deductible plan is about the same or even less than the PPO plan.
