I never enrolled in the retirement plan but I am sure that it was good.

Very generous plan, both 401(k) and defined benefit pension which gets vested in a few short years.

Pension plan was converted to a 'cash value' plan - a common company strategy these days. Has it's plusses and minuses depending on how long you've worked at the company.

You must work for AIG for one year before you are eligible to begin accruing pension benefits. The vesting period is 3 years. Which means that you must work for AIG 3 years before you can KEEP any of the Pension savings you've accrued once you retire. They are working on keeping you for the long haul. :)
