My retirement is fine because I worked long enough to qualify for a pension plus 401K. The younger people (starting in 2000) have 401Ks only plus paid medical insurance for the retired employee. (Wife pays well above industry average, so not good).

IBM no longer contributes to 401k. Instead they are giving an IOU to be paid out if/when you quit or get fired. In theory it will be a 5% contribution, but it cannot be invested anywhere. Interest is pinned to treasury performance.
