TRICARE will cover most expenses however it is becoming more and more difficult to get prompt payment if you see a doctor off post. Also it can take weeks to get an appointment to see your doctor on post. Sometimes they will even tell you to go to the ER for routine care which means you can sit for hours.

Tricare Prime is a premium-free full coverage health insurance which covers the service member and their dependent family members for medical. The service member is covered fully for dental and optical as well and the dependent family members can purchase a dental plan for a small premium.

If you dont have tricare prime, plan on paying co payments if you don't go to your specific provider. If you have a specific treatment you need then there might be certain bases you can get stationed at.

Health insurance is hit or miss while in the service. Since I have gotten out, I have been taken care of by the VA. They are timely and very very respectful, unlike a lot of healthcare providers in the Army.

I had great care in all the hospitals, even though there was a long wait.
