This was, by far, the worst interview experience I’ve ever had. It was supposed to be a brief initial screening, but it left such a negative impression that I chose not to continue with the process. The interviewer kept me waiting for about 20 minutes while on the video call, as she scheduled another candidate's interview during our time. She then vented about how difficult her job was and complained about a candidate who wanted to interview from his truck—oversharing that felt both unprofessional and inappropriate for an interview setting. Once we finally got to discussing the role, the conversation took a strange turn. Rather than focusing on the position, she repeatedly warned me about how awful the job was, that no one stays in it, and that there’s absolutely no work-life balance. She even shared a bizarre ballet analogy to describe the role: “You need to dance with red ballet slippers—soaked in blood—but keep dancing.” It honestly sounded like a description of a toxic workplace. Despite all this, she told me I was selected to move forward to the next round. I declined via email. The experience was disorganized, inconsiderate, and painted a very troubling picture of the company culture. I wouldn’t recommend pursuing opportunities with 8x8 based on this interaction.
