Initial TC, interview presentation and further interview via teams, 15 min call with hiring manager and F2F with HM, junior TA, L&D lead and Senior TA. Was set up to do a call with the CEO on the same evening, however I was left on the teams call for 20 mins with no show and then told to wait 5 more minutes and the HM and senior TA would come on the call. They came on and said they’ve discussed with the CEO and he is happy for an offer to be given to me without speaking to me (seems like Recruiter 101 to me and that I wouldn’t ever be speaking to the CEO) Overall an ok interview process. The initial person I spoke with and did the presentation with was great and very supportive with good feedback and I was able to ask lots of questions. However, I was not given the opportunity by the HM to ask questions during their interviews and I didn’t have to do the presentation again as I thought. Was given an offer but declined due to salary. Expectations from my side had been discussed at every stage and I had been told what the top end of the range was from their side and it matched up. They offered me £9k less than my minimum, £14k less than what they said the top end was, which was quite insulting and when I declined they questioned if my real motivation was actually money which is a very distasteful thing to say considering the situation at hand. They also questioned whether I actually knew what the market range was for salaries at this level, and having done a lot of research and being in other processes, I assured them I did. I was then being pressured into agreeing with them that my salary was too high so that I could be manipulated into stopping negotiations and accepting, which I had to work hard to push back on. This conversation made me realise that they had never intended to offer me what had already been discussed, even though there were no issues highlighted on salary prior to this offer. After receiving this low ball offer I looked closer at things such as the company median tenure and Glassdoor reviews and unfortunately it wasn’t pretty - look into this yourself and form your own opinion. If you receive an interview invite with Alten, do go through with it if you’d like but do your research, ask deep dive questions, and trust your gut enormously!!
