I had an inkling that AQR really looks at the school you come from and highly values certain universities in reading about prior interviews as well as employee reviews of the company, whereas my school was not one of them. Therefore, I felt disadvantaged from the beginning of the interview process but did my best to prepare as much as I could.
During the final round, I had spoken to a good amount of employees, which helped me gain more color into the position and the firm, which I appreciated. I feel that the interviews went very well, but still can't shake the elitist feeling I feel the firm is trying to uphold. In conducting background research into my interviewers, they predominantly came from two schools.
Although my candidacy is still in question, I wanted to share that as someone who doesn't have the educational background of those I was speaking to, I indirectly felt a lack of diversity and inclusion in the firm's culture by seeing the small pool of schools the firm recruits from.
