      Marketing Specialist Interview

      Jun 11, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Singapore
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at ASUS (Singapore)

      Interview

Applied online on JS platform and did not know it was ASUS initially as the company was listed as Confidential. Got contacted by the HR and filled out a bunch of forms prior to the interview and printed them out too (don't know why HR did not do that as it should be part of her job). Interviewed with a department staff and she was nice, briefing me on the job requirements. Did a quiz (60 questions in 45 minutes) on pen and paper after. HR then came in and talked to me. She asked very personal questions like how much did I earn on my previous PREVIOUS job - which I totally did not see the need for her to ask that professionally, neither did I see her writing down my answer to this question anyway? She also asked many out-of-context personal questions and if I bought the house I am currently staying at and if I lived with my parents? Again, the questions were totally uncalled for and there really is no relation to my suitability for the job. She also continued to ask many personal questions which I was uncomfortable answering as it felt like she was asking for her own curiosity instead of it being related to the job. Halfway when she was talking, she suddenly switched to talking in this really weird and fake try-hard Taiwanese Chinese accent. She explained that ASUS was a Taiwanese company. Sure. After 2 - 3 hours of that, she went off to check the calendar to schedule a second interview. When she came back, she told me the date and time and asked why I wasn't writing it down and that she will NOT be sending me a confirmation email. Later that day, I saw the exact same job listing being posted on ANOTHER platform, for a salary that was $900 lower than the original posting I applied for. I was thinking twice on whether to waste my time on the second interview since it seemed like the company / HR wasn't too sincere in hiring on their stated terms. Still, I decided to just go for it as I wanted to see how bad the experience could get. On the day of the second interview, I waited for over ten minutes passed the appointment time for the person to show up. When he finally did show, there was a very strong cigarette smell on him. Enough said. He then asked me what did I know of the job requirements (like a test). He, too, saw something on my application form and asked a totally unrelated question. HR came and talk to me again and kept asking if I had any other job offers. When I declined to answer, she kept asking again and again. Overall, I would say that if you do not have a keen interest in joining them, don't put too much hope on the interview as you might just be wasting your time.

      Interview

The interview went well overall. You communicated your skills effectively and built good rapport. However, some responses could have included clearer outcomes, and one or two technical questions felt less thorough. Ending with more targeted questions about the role or team could also strengthen your impression. Solid performance with room for minor improvements!
