I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at AT&T (Kaneohe, HI) in Sep 2013
Interview
I applied online as a previous employee for the company back in 2009 so when I applied for it from the company website, they emailed me concerning my interest. After responding, they responded back via email to ask if I had worked for the company previous. This interaction actually helped me move forward quickly with the whole interview process. It took less than 2 weeks for the whole process to be completed and I started training a couple weeks after I was given the offer letter and accepted the position.
If it's your first time, I wouldn't stress too much about your resume. They're looking for people with great people skills and a positive attitude will get you a long way. After a few emails back and forth with the company wanting to know more about you, you'll find out if you've been considered for the position. The next step will be for a background check and drug test.
If you complete that process and you receive and email asking for you to meet, that is when you will receive a one-on-one interview with the manager of the specific store you will be working (usually, you'll apply for a position for a certain corp store near your area. If it's a call center, the process will be slightly different). I had to go to an interview with a panel of Area Manager, Regional Manager and the Store Manager who I was going to be working for. For this process, they ask you a series of questions to see if you're suitable for the position. Questions like "how would you react if one of your co-workers was stealing AT&T property" or "How would you handle a customer who has escalated (gotten angry) within the store about AT&T services/products?" They're testing you to see what you'd do, be honest though. They'll eventually find out if you're not telling the truth because trust me, it'll happen.
Finally, if all goes well, you will receive a congratulatory email which will have an offer letter attached for you to accept the position so you're pretty much through the door. This email will have one final survey for you to complete (took about 30mins) and then you'll be told when you start training which by the way, is all paid for.
That's pretty much all there is to it so good luck to all of you and hope to see you become part of our huge family here at AT&T (I should be a recruiter).
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There wasn't much difficulty with my interview or with any of the questions as I've been in this industry for years. Attitude goes a long way so I used as much charm and confidence as I could to show them that I am the person for the job. I haven't failed since applying and re-applying 4 years later, they still accepted me to work for them.
It is a basic customer service and teamwork questions. Asks you to teach them how to do something you're passionate about. Nothing crazy or unexpected. Laid back but professional, answered all my questions as well.
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at AT&T in Jan 2025
Interview
Interview itself is pretty easy. The two times I've interviewed with them as varied based on the manager, but they're pretty forthright with everything they're telling you and the expectations of the job.
After the initial interview, the store will likely assess your product knowledge. They may ask you about various cell phone models, features, or accessories, and how you would explain them to customers. This is to evaluate your ability to understand and communicate technical information.
