I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Abnormal AI (Seattle, WA)
Interview
Set up initial chat with VP which was very informative, and he spent a lot of time addressing my concerns and how Abnormal could be a fit for what I was looking for. There was one phone screen and a final round which had four interviews.
I felt the questions were fair and tested my abilities to communicate, debug, and design., not just how well I could leetcode. The interviewers were engaging and my past projects deep dive was the most thorough interview I’ve done in my life. There weren’t any leetcode “trick” questions that required some leap of intuition in order to solve.

Question 1
Complete skeleton code using data structures and algorithms
Take Home Assessment to develop an application. They want to see your thinking and how you prompt AI to tackle the problem. The end product was an application that can support certain features
Practical problems that were different than your typical leetcode style questions. They let you look stuff up and use AI if you need it. Interview consisted of phone screen, and then full loop with hiring manager, system design, past project review.
Recruiter sent me a take-home assignment. I spent more than 8 hours on it, only to be rejected 5 minutes after the screening call because they hadn’t set up the ATS filters and didn’t check my application thoroughly. Promised to send a follow-up email the next day and, of course, they didn’t. Super unprofessional, no respect to applicants time
