I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Aetna (Denver, CO) in Jun 2019
Interview
I was referred by an acquaintance who was an employee at Aetna. After applying I received a call from an Aetna recruiter a week later.
She said she'd be in touch but I didn't hear from her for 2 weeks. After following up, she said she'd check on the status of my candidacy and get back to me.
2 weeks later, my contact at Aetna reported that the boss at Aetna had changed his mind and no longer wanted to hire someone for that particular position. I didn't receive any notification from the recruiter about this or from Aetna at all. The boss simply told my contact to tell me that they weren't going to hire me.
On its face, this outcome may not seem that unusual, as many interview processes are drawn out with companies being less than transparent or communicative. However, this process had been going on for nearly 2 months, with the Aetna bosses constantly waffling on whether or not the position was ready for me to apply to. Additionally, the abrupt change of heart regarding whether or not the position was necessary and the lack of any official notification that they didn't want to hire me after nearly 2 months of back and forth gives the impression that this company is severely disorganized and suffering from a huge amount of bureaucratic wishy-washiness.
Advice to Aetna: Treat candidates with a minimum level of respect. Even a simple, auto-generated email saying, "NO. Go away" would have been preferable to the treatment I received from them.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
-How do you think your previous experience has prepared you for this position at Aetna?
-What led you to become a software engineer?
Fun process! In first round interviewer asked me to code a program to print all even numbers till 100. Second round was a bit awkward. None of the team members switched there camera on but asked me to do so. There were 10 people interviewing me and in a breath asked me different java questions for one hour. These were good questions but I would have appreciated a little kindness from the team. Or at least few seconds before grilling me with another question !
